You're getting good answers, mostly. The cat is just playing with you. This is still a kitten but you need to play with him, teach him how to play. When he does this, go, "Eee," like it hurts, and then move away from him like you don't want anything to do with that behavior. Then come back with a string and play with him. Blow in his face when he bites and make the same noise every time before putting him down and moving away.
Then, tear a sheet of paper in 1/4 and ball it up. It will grab his attention before you toss it--and he'll go chasing after it. Let him know what play is and is not this way.
Kittens are actually looking for these types of cues, or, lessons, which they would normally be getting from momma cat. So you have to be momma cat and teach them what is acceptable and what is just really RUDE and unsafe.
Biting kitten. I have one. He does stop when I blow and make the noise, but it's taking awhile to make it stop. Good luck!

One: Cats do that to each other,.. understand that's part of it's function
Two: It's part of your cat's personality,.. maybe it will outgrow it.
Three: Get your cat fixed IMMEDIATELY it may start spraying within the next 31 days or go into heat. Then it's health will be jepordized (reproductive organs could kill it) or if it's starts to spray even fixing it will likely not stop the spraying 100%
Four: Posibly other Cats in the Area it wants to play with,... or have sexual relations with. Yes it's old enough. Go get it fixed unless you have an excellent reason to breed it and can afford if noone buys it's kittens and it's next litter of kittens and the one after that for the next few years. It doesn't matter what people say,.. they don't actually take the kittens or if they do odds are they will dump them outside and never let them indoors again within a year of getting them (don't believe me,.. read around,.. people do that all the times >.< Heartless jerks)
Five: It just wants to play and you posibly have a Human in your household or that visits that thinks smacking it in the nose and tossing it around is playing nice with it. That's just makeing it agressive

i had the same problem and sometimes still do! when my cat was a kitten he drove me nuts even to the point of crying, my dog is so calm and always has been. solution a let some kids play with it to wear it out especially 4-5 yr olds. it just needs some roughing up throw it chase it stomp at love give it as much attention as possible, to time consuming? get another one then they will torment each other and not you. in six months to a year you will have a vey loving companion. no matter what let it know it is loved and at the end of the day after a TON of attention and playing it will settle on finally be that kitty you want. animals are like two year olds and rely on you and require much attention.

My kitten used to do this. I bought Bitter Apple Spray from the petstore and would spray his paws with it each time he would bite my ankle. It's meant to keep pets away from plants and most cats hate the taste. It broke the habit and after 6 years my cat is stilll scared to even see the Bitter Apple Spray bottle.

It's normal with kittens and cats. They have different personalities. The only time they are really mad is when another cat, mainly outdoors cats is in their presents, or dogs. Find out more info from a human society member.

That's how kittens play, you showed him affection, that's how kittens show affection, by play, it's instinctual. He'll grow out of it, just brush him aside and say ouch so he can see it hurts. But unfortunately they all go through that stage and you have to put up with the bites and scratches for awhile. But they aren't stupid, if you show he is hurting you by saying ouch really loud, he'll get the message.

My cats have all done that when we adopted them. What I did was start to pet them when they were eating. If that does not work, I would go to a local shelter, vet, or even a cat trainer if it is so bad that you can't live another day with it.

Kittens can't see fast movement or they want to play. Walk slower, reach to pet it slower and just generally slow down and it won't be like that so much.

It's just being playful. That's how it would play with other cats. When it scratches or bites you, yell or whine. If that isn't working, squirt him with water.

it is just playing.......go to the petstore and buy some kitty toys and play with them with it. Tell it no, when it is playing like this. either that, or it just might not like the way you are petting it......
