Hi there. I'm a small animal vet on the east coast. I guess I'd need more info, like what the cat's symptoms were and what prompted you to have xrays done. If her kidneys are enlarged, it may be from an infection or kidney stones. Not all stones will show up on an xray, but an ultrasound /sonogram would pick them up. She could also have been born with a kidney problem since she's so young. Make sure she's leukemia negative since some cancers are associated with that disease, especially cancer in such a young cat. A sonogram is a great way to get a really good look at the kidneys on a much deeper level than an xray. Make sure you get bloodwork done to check the kidney enzymes and also to check for signs of infection, and insist on a urinalysis if that hasn't been done. That will help the vet determine if the kidneys are functioning properly or not and should be looked at along with the bloodwork. good luck. Hope your kitty does well.

If you have a child how would you respond to the doctor? Also if your not completely satisfied with your vet get a second opinion. The thing is we don't want to let go of our loved ones so we need to learn to do that. Since your cat if young it has a better chance of coming through any treatment. If you feel your pet will live a long life once you take care of all the problems then go a head. Or if not you know what you need to do. You just have to do it...Good luck...

Crystals, are not 'caused' by antifreeze. ( if antifreeze was the culprit, your cat would most likely NOT be here right now) They are caused by a 'few' things actually... one being Magnizium, most likely from a type of food. Put her / him on the "low ash" food, that is made spifically FOR "urinary tract health"... that should help in keeping the crystals away, or from 'coming back'. DO, take your cat in for the sonogram.. that is the only way to truely know what is going on inside of it. And, you can 'go from there', indeciding the treatment.
Good Luck..

All I can say, is that the cat is yound and you must not give up on her. You must do whatever it takes to save her. Find the best doctor, get second opinion, do the treatment, etc. Everyone thought my cat would die when he had something similar, but I and he were patient and fought the disease and now he is well. I don't know much about the pecific disease though, sorry, good luck.

My vet told me that crystals in the urine was a physiological problem that some cats just get and it can only be controlled through diet. One of my cats has this condition and she has to have this special (extremely expensive) food for the rest of her life. It's not a problem that they can just treat and it goes away.

i'm not really sure about what might be happening to your cat.. it may be exactly what the doc said, cancer. if this is the case, let the docs do their job and help her physically, and you can make her very happy by speniding alot of time with her.. unless she wants you to leave her alone. I hope your cat turns out OK when she gets the sonogram :)

It could be kidney stones, but unfortunately you will have to wait to get your results. There are lots of diseases with the kidneys and a lot can be treated, best of luck!

crystals are caused due to magnesium in the foods we feed our cats...fish is very high in magnesium...i have never heard of this condition with the bunched up intestines and would seriously consider a second opinion

if she had crystals in her urine, then she got into antifreeze somewhere.... just enough to get on her paws could kill her if she licked it off.... antifreeze will screw with her kidneys as a long term effect.... poor thing... if that's what happened, it might be more humane to put her down, it's VERY painful, and it will cost you tons to have fixed, and probably won't be fixable in the long run anyway... :(( i'm sorry, honey..... that sucks....
good luck...
