Well you could always get your cat declawed but you may not be a person who likes that idea. If you don't want to declaw you can go to a petstore or petsmart and get "soft paws". They are little plastic covers that fit over your cats nails with a small amount of glue. They stay on for a pretty good while but do have to be replaced often. They come in different sizes and colors so make sure you get the right size for your cat. You can also get them in clear. If you do decide to declaw then call and ask your local vet any questions you have because iI have noticed that alot of people on here don't know what they are talking about when it comes to animal surgerys.

Cats need to scratch. It not only sharpens their claws (which we're all on happy about!), but keeps the muscles in their legs in good shape, too. So...
1) Get something for them to scratch/claw, i.e., a GOOD scratching post and reward them profusely when they use it. You can get them to use it by demonstrating for them (yes, model the behavior) and also by rubbing (or spraying) some catnip on the post.
2) Make sure you put the post in a good location, maybe have more than one if you can afford it.
3) Use Sticky Paws to protect your furniture until they learn what it's appropriate to scratch.

Please don't spray your cat with anything. Please don't declaw your cat. Get a clawing post-- of course. Also, allow you cat to go outside as it pleases. Make a sudden loud noise when your cat starts to claw the wrong thing. Make up a sound that you use each time it does this. Cats must do this clawing for the same reason you must streach.

You spray them with a water bottle(just a little water will do) every time the claw something. Get them a scratching post and cut their claws.

I had my cat declawed. This may seem inhumane but it has saved the furniture and she still climbs.
