I left my cat in my car for 5 minutes, and she ended up peeing on the carpet at the front passenger's side. Now my car smells really really bad, I have to drive with my windows down in 40 degree F weather! How do I get the smell out? I tried store bought sprays. Is there any other way? I can't stand it! Thanks for all the help!

This is going to sound really strange but it works better than anything ever. I learned this from a former carpet cleaner who had a cat urine problem in his house.

Buy a small bottle of liquid septic tank cleaner, stuff used to maintain the health of septic tanks. Look for the word, "enzymes" on it. It's sold near where they keep the DrainO. It may be called "Enzymagic" or something like that. There's all different brands--it doesn't matter which brand.

Get a spray bottle and pour a little of this septic tank cleaner into it at a ratio of about 10 to 1 and fill the rest with plain water. The ratio is not all that important, more enzyme is okay and will probably work better.

Spray it on a small test spot to make sure it doesn't damage your carpet. It probably will not, but still, I need to use this disclaimer.

This stuff is awesome and will clean any stain from the carpet too. As long as the stain is organic, it will disappear. Plus, it's cheap.

Blot it up with paper towels. Then pour an enzyme based solution on it like Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle (available at Pet Smart and other pet stores). Let it dry.

"Urine Gone" effectively removes new or old urine stains from washable surfaces and fabrics. Fast acting enzyme action attacks urine and other organic matter (such as feces, blood, saliva, and more) and essentially eats up their stains and odors. Helps prevent dogs and cats from re-marking their territory. Urine Gone is safe in pet areas and around the house. You can order this online.

Baking soda should eliminate the smell. Use fabric cleaner to clean up any stains.
