Cats - December 2006

We recently adopted a ten-month-old cat from the SPCA last Thursday, and we were planning to get two -- it was all going great. The cat would let us cuddle with him, sit on our lap, etc. When we got the second one yesterday from the same place (SPCA), the loving stopped. They get along relatively fine -- they tolerate each other, but I can't help but feel sad because everytime I try to cuddle up with the former original cat (they're 6 months apart) he doesn't act the same...he doesn't let me hold and hug him for long periods of time, hold his paws, cuddle, etc. Will he ever "go back to normal"?

I am putting in this question so I can answer it myself with life saving information about cats and spaying and neutering, and why it is so important.
Spay and Neuter your Pets.

I know you are allowed to, but is it a total hassle? I am worried my cat will screech and meow the whole time and piss the other passengers off. (I heard you should NOT give them a sedative).

My cat is 12 years old, she has been the only pet in the family until I got a roommate who also has a cat. It's been a year and she still won't tolerate the other cat being anywhere near her.

well i wanna know if you guys have been told by your vet the same thing, coz my cat cant pee,he always tries but none would come out so i took him to the vet but he couldnt really diagnose the problem coz my cat was really resisting the catheter even if hes tranquilized and he told me that cat food (and dog food) are actually harmful coz it can cause kidney stones in the long run coz its too salty..he told me to just feed him rice and fish,or anything that isnt artifially processed like cat food and dog food (my cat also eats dog food) so tell me,did your vet tell you that its harmful or did something happen to your cat/dog that was caused by it?

My cat is pregnant, and I was wondering what some signs are that she is close to giving birth. This can be weeks or hours.. and duh, if kittens start popping out of her.. but ahead of time?

I have searched to no avail on the web, and can't seem to find a decent jacket with a lifelike feline print.

And do they have to be really young? My kittens are almost half-grown but I would love to teach them to use the toilet like I do!

I have a nine month old cat, and I've been told to not feed her anything with by-products or too many fillers. With my budget, though, it's been hard to find something that I can afford on a regular basis. Could anyone reccommend to me a wet and/or dry cat food that's affordable, healthy, and that my cat will eat?

The cat we're buying is very quite and serious, so I want a people name for her. I can't decide between:
Elena(Yelena)
Larisa
Ananias
Christiana
Katya
Natasha

NOTE: Elena(Yelena), Katya, Natasha, and Larisa are Russian names.

Thanks a ton!

I always figured that house cats mate year-round, but recently a few friends have told me that they actually have a mating season.

i have heard that dogs wait and watch their owners eat because they view their owner as "head dog", so to speak, and are waiting for the head dog to finish so they can have their turn.

do you think it is the same for cats?

sometimes i think my cat thinks he is an infant because he ALWAYS wants to be cradled and kissed.
