You definitely don't want to wait til they both hit 6 months given you have a boy & girl together!...they frequently get pregnant at 5 months, and sometimes younger. I would speak to the vet about it...he might suggest you get one of the 2 done at 4-5 months, and the other can wait til 6 months (assuming they are indoor cats and aren't in contact with any other undesexed kitties!) Hope you are enjoying them!

My cats were fixed at 12 and 14 weeks old (girl and boy respectively), before I picked them up from the shelter. I believe the lowest weight they'll do it at is 2 or 3 lbs. Some vets still stick to 6 months, but you should be able to find one that will do at this age if you want to do so.

"Ovariohysterectomies/gonadect... (spay/neuter surgery) for puppies and kittens (eight to sixteen weeks of age), was endorsed by the American Veterinary Medical Association in 1993 as another effective method to stem the overpopulation of companion animals. Having kittens and pups altered before adoption (most are adopted when very young) ensures that there will not be any accidental litters. Female kittens and pups can become pregnant by the age of five months, so the past practice of waiting until animals are six months old has resulted in many an unwanted litter! It is interesting to note that in the old days, people were told to wait until their cat/dog was a year old, or had her first litter to be spayed! The time was later moved up to six months but we now know that companion animals can safely be done much earlier, and have a faster recovery time as well. It may be easiest for vets learning this procedure to move their earliest date back to four months, then three, then two. Anesthesia protocols are not much different for the younger patient than for the adult, and they are very resilient..."

About 5-6 months

6 months (especially for the males) Technically it can be earlier but in the males they need the testosterone to make sure their urethra grows to its full potential. If it doesnt they run the risk of getting blocked and having to have catheters put in and meds and even prescription diet (which is like $11.00 for a 4 lb bag) to make sure they dont block again. So i would wait till 6 months just to save yourself some time and money and your cat a lot of pain in the future.Good luck

Most vets will say 6-8 months, but I've heard of some that do them no earlier than 4. But on average it's 6 months to be safe.

This answer comes from the San Bernardino County Humane Society. They told me 12 weeks old, HOWEVER, I was told by my vet that my cat could get spayed as soon as she hit 5 pounds. She was fine.

You'd be amazed how many different answers you'll get from trained veterinary professionals.

5-6 months of age and also make sure they are all up on their vaccinations! Try not to go past 6 months, cause they will come into heat about that time and that could spell disaster!

You can get early spaying/neutering done as soon as 6-8 weeks, as long as he/she weighs at least 2 lbs.

Otherwise, I think it was 4 (?) months for cats.

I know dogs are 6 months, but I don't remember for cats.

Anyway, good luck!
