When a Male cat has a Castration are the testicles supposed to still be present on the Cat?

The vet makes a small incision in the scrotum sac and pulls or cuts the testicles out, leaving an empty "bag". Alot of cats still look like they have some luggage though. It's ok. Don't worry, your vet didn't leave them in there and screw you over. All 3 of my cats still look unneutered.

No, the testicles are removed when a cat or dog are neutered/castrated. When a cat is neutered, usually, the hair on the scrotum is shaved or plucked off, a small incision is made into each scrotum, the testicle is then pushed out thru the incision and then gently pulled out, there is some muscle/tendon that pulls out with it and looks sort of like a thick string, the "string" is either tied off with a desolvable suture material or some vets tie the "tendon" in a knot and the testicle is then removed. Then the remaining "tendon" is placed back into the scrotal opening, some vets will put a powder around the area to prevent bleeding although there is very little bleeding to begin with. There are no sutures that need to be removed and usually it heals without any problems. If you are asking this question because your cat was neutered but there is still something in that area that you think is a testicle, you should take it back to the vet, reason being is if there is a bulge or something there that isn't right it could indicate a problem and one of them could be there was some bleeding that was trapped in the scrotal area which needs to be addressed by a vet to make sure it has stopped bleeding and there is no infection. Usually, if there isn't too much wrong or whatever is wrong is caused because the procedure did not go as smoothly as it should have, there is usually no cost to you for the vet to do a follow up.

YES - They are still there but shrivelled up and smaller. I was worried about this when i had my cat done a while ago, as he was acting as if nothing had happened and they were still there. I found out from the vet that all they do is put 2 small incisions and cut off the blood supply and the tubes. The testicles then gradually die as there is no blood keeping them alive. So they will still be there but not working. This is a relatively recent technique that is supposed to be more humane for the cat. They still call it castration though which meant taking them away because thats what they used to do. Hope this helps! :)

Hi,
As a veterinarian in training it would be my pleasure to answer this question for you!
Castration actually means removing the testicles. On a cat it is very quick and easy to do for a trained professional. The cat is under anesthesia and there are usually no stitches needed so the cat heals very quickly by what is called 2nd intention.

So, to answer your question, no the testicles should not be present after a male cat is castrated but the scrotum will still be there and can LOOK like there are testicles.

good luck

it depends on the age of the cat. A young cat you will see nothing but if the cat is older when castrated he can still look like he has testicles.

Nope, they open up the sack and chop them suckers off.

Seriously though. The cats balls are removed but the sack does swell for a few days and it "looks" like the balls are still there.
The first time I had one done I thought that they hadn't taken them out too and called the vet and was told what had happened and that I was neither the first or the last to be making this call.

Castration does not mean removal of the sac that holds the testicles...hence, even after neutering the sac is still seen..

i think of this is cautioned to neuter at 5 to 6 months. To be common spraying is in basic terms a cat's factor. To be common I had a cat neutered at 6 months yet he did spray each and every so usually. this is a cat factor they'll spray to place down their territory. I stay in a close by the place there are a number of stray (feral) cats so i assume he will proceed to spray to tell different cats this is his territory even nonetheless the fragrance isn't so good

Nope. The vet makes an incison in the scrotum and removes both tesetes. There might be a bit of swelling at the surgical site, but it'll decrease in a week or so.
