Cats - August 2006

[Selected]: All categories Pets Cats

We've had a new dog (adult) in our house for about 3 months. The intro to our two cats went fairly well. He is the only dog in the house but not the only dog the cats have lived with in the past. Lately one of the cats keeps striking out at the dog. Loud noise that scares everyone, including the dog, and the cat goes after the dog. Sometimes the other cat joins in but not always. We've tried spending equal time with the pets thinking it was jealousy but it's still a problem. The dog does nothing we'd consider as provocation -- walking by to go from one room to the next can sometimes set off the cat. Meanwhile the other cat will be perfectly fine with whatever the dog is doing.
Any tips you can offer? We're good at diffusing the situation so no tips needed there we just need some ideas on how to at least reduce the frequency of it. I'm more familiar with dog behavior than cats so I don't know what can cause a cat to be OK for a couple of months then start behaving like this.

i was just wondering why every time some one ask for advice on a possibly pregnant cat people start demanding that these people desex there cat? i understand that yes there a alot of strays etc. but some of these people might want to breed and just need a lil help when starting off. i belive this web site is about helping people with things there unsure of and the typical dumb ass who has nothing better to do than ask stupid made up crap to see how many people answer.

How can I make her stop?
We can't move the roll holder any higher or my daughter wont be able to reach it, we can't shut the door because that is where kitty's litter box is as its the only room in the house that isn't near food or the bedrooms.
She is so mischevious, I dont agree with hitting animals so please, no silly answers like that!
Any (other) answers will be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I gotten a kitten about a month ago. Not even a year old yet. She was doing good, and is a good mouse catcher. But now she is bugging me a lil. She climbs on my curtains and get on top of the enterainment center.
Which I have my wedding pics and a glass tiffany lamp sitting on top of. She got on there yesterday morn, but done no harm to it. This morn, she got on there. A wedding pic of mine fell and the frame broke. Everything been scooted and mess up. Thank God, the lamp has not been broke yet.
What can I do to keep her from getting up there ??? Should I put her outside, when I go to bed at night ? Or see if catnip will do any good ???

I have tried both ordinary and humane mouse traps, I have removed the cat food and made sure there is nothing for it to eat, but cant seem to catch it. It has been in the house for 2 weeks now. Every so often she catches it, but just plays with it and then lets it go again.

I've been thinking about buying a cat, and I absolutely love blue/gray haired breeds. From what I hear about Russian Blue and Korat, they can be quite shy and tempermental. I am really interested in the Chartreux breed, but have been able to find no info on pricing. I know purebred probably isn't the most affordable way to go, and that there are a lot of affordable greyhaired mixed breeds, but I'd like to know where I could find a breeder in canada/northeastern US

I have two 9-10 week old male kittens. They love to play rough with each other, like biting their tails, "wrestling" with each other. What kind of games can I do with them that is rough as well. I don't want to pet them. I want to have fun with them, make them feel like I am fun and a friend, not just someone that feeds and pets them.

Ok today i responded to an ad in the local paper about kittens needing a home...my best friend just had her cats stollen and i wanted to go and get her a new kitty to make her feel a little better...the lady that answered the phone said,"sure we can come and look at them, i'll go out in the shed and bring them in for you to look at." We live in florida, it is on average this time of year mid to upper 90s...the temp in the shed had to be atleast 100 +!!!! the door to the shed was shut!!!!! Instead of reporting her, i took the mother and all 5 of the kittens and now i'm going to raise them myself and find wonderful homes for them...she didn't even ask questions about me our my family, not even a question about me taken all of the cats....i just found this very sad that people think animals are desposable...oh, and by the way they are 5 weeks old and she had the ad in the paper and said they were ready to go..the mom wasen't even allowed to nurse them anymore...what do you think???
