Three days ago I gave two kittens to a lady...last night she told me she has mild allergies & gives cats baths with Dawn dishwashing liquid to lower dander & kill fleas...I asked her to please not do this, as I have seen pics of cats given baths with products not for cats..such as people shampoo, soaps, dog products...not only does it remove the oils they need, it can kill them...it can act like an acid & literally burn them...it might be fine on one, then kill another...you just don't know...She says she did it to her two for years & that's just vets wanting to scare you into buying expensive products...I'm very upset & thinking I made a very wrong decision in giving her the kitties...If anyone has some facts or links I could show her, it would be greatly appreciated...& yes, I would take them back in a heartbeat..

He is a 4 montho old American Bulldog and we are pretty sure it is him that is peeing on the bed. Our other dog is a 4yr old female pitbull and she would rather die that relieve herself in the house. We never let him on the bed. Does anyone know what inspired him to pee on our bed when we are not looking and how should we put a stop to it?

I’m looking to buy a British bulldog, they are pretty expensive I’ve seen adds on a website call mercattel.com, with bulldog puppies to adopt for free. Does anyone know if this is some kind of scam, I’ve only been able to email these people there is no contact number. I’ll be making a 5-hour drive to even see the puppies. Just though someone out there might know.

I am in a vet school and our rats are having their last litter (they were used to breed snake food :( ). Since there is enough 'food' for that nasty ol' snake, I and some other students were allowed to adopt some rats. I've chosen a male and female (the male will be neutered) but I have never cared for small animals before, only dogs. I've bought a three story cage, some rat chow, food dish, water dripper thing, and aspen bedding stuff (I heard from forums that it's good stuff)

My questions are these:
1) At what age should I let them be before I take them home?

2) What can I do in the mean time to help take care of the rats at school? I do not believe they are properly kept (I've read that rats need 2 cubic feet per rat for a cage size. These ones have small hamster cages).

3) Should I do anything with the babies at school such as moving separating them? If so, when and with who? Girls stay with mom, boys stay with dad?

Thank you in advance!

I have a California Kingsnake, aged about 10 months.

It is in very good health, eats well, sheds well, is tame, does all the things it is supposed to do. As a result I have had no reason to take it to the vet. I have no desire to traumatize my snake unnecessarily by taking it to the vet.

The snake has not been probed, so I don't know what sex it is.

It is now about two feet long, and its body is getting fairly fat compared to its head. Its tail tapers very quickly rather than gradually tapering.

Without advising me to get it probed, what gender would you guess it is?

Please take this post seriously. If you don't have any input or even remote experience or thoughts on the issue, don't answer.

I have a female calico cat that has been spayed since a few months after birth. She is now 5 and is a completely indoor animal.

Anyway, she can get very angry sometimes. I know for a fact that she is not playing. For example, she will rub on me, (like when she wants food) then start latching on to my ankles and start biting and scratching them. If I try to interrupt her with my hands, she will just bite and aggressively scratch them and actually leave me with permanent scarring.

No, I'm not kidding. She is very, very cute and I love her like a child. I would not ever consider giving her away, not for any reason.

I do have another, older, bigger male cat that I would also never consider getting rid of for any reason. They don't fight and he doesn't seem to be around when she gets angry.

But why does she do this? And how can I get her to be less angry?

Last night I bought my dogs some (IMHO) expensive doggie treats and instead of enjoying them, they wouldn't even touch them . Can anyone recommend doggie treats that your own dogs really enjoy? Mine do like dental treats ,chewy bones, and dog biscuits. I am looking for the soft ,meat flavored types , something that would be mouth watering to them that would be a great reward . Thanks in advance!

My dog Dakota is a Rottweiler German shepherd/ Sib.Husky

She guards everything. Her dog food, her bowl, her toys especially from my other dog Duke.

Its hard to get him to play inside if she is guarding the toys even if she isn't playing with it.

Is there any way to solve this?

I always take them from her if she is guarding something she don't need like the dog food.

they bark a lot at night, i think its because their not doing much during the day, so that their never tired at night (only sometimes they are) what can i do to drain their energy during the day so they can sleep at night, im at school from 7 to 3 so i cant spend time with them during that period of time

My cat is about a year old and for a couple of months i've noticed him scratching under his chin. I found tiny black pellets that might be flea poop,so i started scratching and picking at them and noticed that the skin underneath them was red and possibly bleeding. I put them on a damp tissue and they did not not run a brown color. What else could they possibly be, dried skin?

They're the same age, and they've been together since they were 5 weeks old, but they're not from the same litter. They play and wrestle together, and they get really jealous when one is spending time with me. But when they're together, they cuddle, and lick each others' ears and butts and whatever else. I don't really care if they're lesbians or sisters, or even both, because the three of us have so much love! I was just curious.

I just bought 5- 2"piranhas and a 75 gallon tank. I went to a fish store that specializes in wild fish. The owner seems like he has a lot of knowledge and experience with fish. My question is he said for the first 6 weeks with the piranhas inside the tank I shouldn't do anything with the tank. So no water changes. That's how he told me the tank will cycle and grow bacteria. But I've been doing research and I've read that changing the water frequently is crucial to the cycling process. What should I do? He said since the fish are small and inside a big tank the ammonia levels won't be harmful.

I have 2 mice, Kess (1yr 4mths) and Noella (10mths) and I recently bought a new baby whom I called Nymph.
When I introduced them on a neutral level, they were fine, but in Kess and Noella's tank, Noella was aggressive to the point when she drew blood.
I had to separate them.
Now that they're separated, it's been a few days with several neutral-territory sessions, and Noella has stopped biting and attacking Nymph and Nymph is getting much more confident around the two. She has also gotten very close to Kess to the point that they huddle together to groom themselves.
I have yet to try and put them in the tank again.

Do you think they're getting better?
Will they get along?
Would they get along better if I bought a new tank and some new toys?

My fish has a fungal infection on his face and a bit of tail rot, I have been using Bettafix for 4 days so far, and my fish looks the same, I know the directions say to use for 7 days, or longer .

My question is, when do I stop uisng this medicine, do I stop using it when his infection clears up , or when his tail is in better condition? Or is 7 days of medication enough?

After 7 days of using this medication is it safe enough to put him in a tank with the other fish (with a divider)?
