They wouldn`t know any better..
I went outside to find my cat playing with a mouse and preparing to bring it inside.. When he saw me he started meowing and brought it up to me, purring and rubbing against my legs. He seemed very proud of himself. I read somewhere that they bring dead animals as gifts for their owners, but was wondering if there was any solid proof in terms of animal psychology.

Our lab has a heart murmur and the fluid that backs up into her lungs keeps her coughing and wheezing for hours at a time inspite of her medication she takes. She has also lost alot of weight, but eats regularly. She can't do any physical activity because she looses her breath and coughs and wheezes. Is this painful and Is it time to put her down?

I think I just stepped on my rabbit's tail or something.I stood up to look for my rabbit and when I looked down, I saw my rabbit's tail in one piece seperate from the rabbit. I then saw her run off very painfully. The tail is neatly ripped off with a small bloody vein tailing off it. My rabbits bottom now has a very small (1cm) area of minimal bleeding The blood doesn't seem to be pouring out or anything. I don't know if it came off itself or I stepped on it. If I did, how could it come off so quickly and so neatly, if it wasn't me, then is it normal for a rabbit's tail to fall off? I am so frightened and sorry!

1. Best method to potty train a Chihuahua puppy?
2. Male or Female? In a dog book I read, it said that males tend to be more macho, and female are closer to their human family. it also said that in dominant breeds, males tend to be more agressive. Chihuahuas are considered dominant breeds, aren't they? Unfair! also, my mum only ever sees male Chihuahuas on the dog whisperer and on dog borstal so she says that males r more agressive dogs.
3. Would a Chihuahua puppy learn to live with a rabbit and hamster? we dont expect them to play, we just want the Chihuahua to ideally ignore the current pets.

Also, plz can no-one reply saying Chihuahuas are yappy snappy dogs. they are not. Any breed of dog can be yappy and snappy, not just Chihuahuas.

Also, should we get a short-haired or a long-haired? in a dog book it said that long haired chihuahuas tend to be more independant and untrustful fo strangers than short haired and also, short hairs shed all year round a long haired shed twice a year

I looked through petfiner, and there is this rabbit, he is so sad, and it said that the family who had him, relocated, and dropped him off at an animal shelter, his house, and all his toys! And he sits there, as a child who parents abandoned in some orphanage, and looks so sad, as if he understands that they dumped him. And all his toys near him!
Why do they get them at all at first?

My dog Molly is a medium sized beagle mix that was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease a couple years back. i believe the type was a form of lupus because she lost pigmentation in her nose, lost fur on her ears and front legs, became lethargic and did not hardly eat (http://a221.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/81/l_af1cc0ed1dbec798255b3b4c31ce96bc.jpg). She is now taking prednisone to treat it. Because of the prednisone, molly gained back the weight she lost plus more. She has a beagle stomach and dalmatian legs, so the extra weight really put a strain on her legs and she tore her ACL. The vet said surgery might kill her or cause her autoimmune to come back. The vet gave us tramadol to ease the pain. Right now I am trying to keep her off her leg.
Molly is a great dog and I would like to make her as comfortable as I can. Is there anything i can do to heal her leg or help her pain anymore? And are there any less expensive alternatives to leg braces or ways to make one at home?
Thanks

for more than 20 hours per day. I have been thinking about this a lot and I don't know what to do. I feel terrible for the dog. It is showing signs of shelter shock. It's emotional and physical needs are being neglected. It is fed regularly and has water available and it's cage is clean but this situation seems so cruel to me. What would you do?

We have a wonderful 4 year old German Shepherd mix (male). We adopted him in April 2007 from a shelter. We do not know his past owners or how they treated him, but suspect they may have been a little overly strict with him. He is already housebroken and is well behaved. However, he has one unusual problem. Every now & then he does what we googled and believe to be "submissive urination". The strange thing is that he only does it for my hubby & not me... And he only does it when he tries to put his leash on to go for a walk. It's bizarre. Why would he continue to do this after like 7 months? He clearly has bonded with my hubby and they play and go for walks all the time, but only sometimes does this. Also, when this happens he cowers away from my hubby with his tail between his legs like he is scared. Even if he tempts him with a treat he won't come to him, and if he does - he pees. Any suggestions???

Is your dog aloof with strangers or friendly?
Will s/he obey commands from strangers (basic ones, like sit or shake)?
What breed, age, and gender is your dog (dogs)?
Did you encourage or train this behavior?
Was this an important thing to consider when you looked into this particular breed or dog?

Recently when i moved him from his old tank to a more "realistic" enviroment with veggetation stones twice the size of his head..a filter..a basking dock and a uvb light, no heater cause they do not bask. And hes actually ALOT more actice and actually eats like a little pig he would barely eat in his old tank a 20g with just one hide. I felt bad so i took him to his new enviroment but a week before i took him out i had noticed he had a kink at the tip of his tail, i did'nt think anything was wrong i thought it would realign but instead it fell off. And i think it may be infected. Its been about a week since it fell off and now a nother piece of tail is turning whitish and i'm afraid that the infection will slowly kill him. he is still interested in food. I can't take him to the vet because he is just to fragile the vet would only do worse. Well im very worried. Is their any medicine i could put in there to kill the infection? It could be skin from when it when it fell off or it couldbe

My 2 filter powerheads are creating 1/2" waves that surf from the left side of the tank to the right..

1/2" is the amplitude. meaning from water surface to the peek of the wave..

I just gor 2 8 week old kittens from a lady, when I brought them home I discovered that they had fleas. This lady had dogs, and cats that she did let outside and so I am pretty sure these kitties contracted these fleas from the other animals.

I have been using the flea brush daily, but what is the best thing to do or to use to get rid of these fleas on these poor kitties.

* They are still too young for a flea collar , I beleive they have to be 12 weeks.

My friend recently got some (what I think are) gerbils for his birthday. After realising that he wasn't feeding them or giving them water I offered to take them off his hands. I have put some bedding, hamster food and water in shallow bowls and a little play toy for them but I don't know much about how to look after them. Do you have any tips?

I have noticed in the last 3-4 days that aquarium heater temperature is not matching with the thermometer. could this be due to our cold weather. heating does run in the building when its cold for us humans. I notice the orange light is on but the temperature in 3-5 degrees lower then it should be. It does seem similar to room temperature at times. And as the heater light is on it just seems its trying to heat up. but water does feel colder then normal - also i dont seem to feel that the heater is hot (i should be able to feel this on touch) or does this get only slightly hot. uvlight is also present.

They look like small salt grains. They are attached to the Media inside my tank(ex. powerhead). They are very small.
At first i thought it was live sand but then i tried manually removing it but it wouldn't come out. They are very small tough salt looking grains..

If you know what they are:
Are they harmful in anyway???

A week ago I adopted a young female cat from the Spca. I choose a young female because she seemed friendly. I was trying to find a similar cat to the one I own. I have a young friendly female cat who I thought could use a friend. I been keeping the new cat in my bathroom while I am sleeping or away. I let her out daily to play with the other cat, but they seem to not like each other. Another thing now when I pet the new cat she will claw me when shes in my lap. She has done this three times, making me not want to pet her, fearing she will claw again. She also has been messing on the floor. I have three cat boxes around the house. I have one in the bathroom and two in the living area. I even changed the cat litter to a non scent litter. She does go in the box when she is closed in the bathroom. I know it takes time for cats to adjust, but Im not sure if she will adjust. I would hate to bring her back, but I was thinking about trading for another one. Would I being doing right?
