Recently when i moved him from his old tank to a more "realistic" enviroment with veggetation stones twice the size of his head..a filter..a basking dock and a uvb light, no heater cause they do not bask. And hes actually ALOT more actice and actually eats like a little pig he would barely eat in his old tank a 20g with just one hide. I felt bad so i took him to his new enviroment but a week before i took him out i had noticed he had a kink at the tip of his tail, i did'nt think anything was wrong i thought it would realign but instead it fell off. And i think it may be infected. Its been about a week since it fell off and now a nother piece of tail is turning whitish and i'm afraid that the infection will slowly kill him. he is still interested in food. I can't take him to the vet because he is just to fragile the vet would only do worse. Well im very worried. Is their any medicine i could put in there to kill the infection? It could be skin from when it when it fell off or it couldbe

healing but still i really want him to be ok because he was born only 3 months ago! He is missing the tip of his tail. Also can you help me review my diet for him. Crickets, boiled chicken, worms, fish (prefers dead over live),and I also fogot to mention his shell seems a little leathery not like a regular hard turtle shll is this normal. He still swims around and breaths and goes on land once in a while. PLEASE HELP! also is it normal for them to a couple of bites and then get full?

I love snapping turtles! I had one of my own for three years (I took care of him over the summers while I attended that school). He got so tame with me, he'd nap on my lap!

It sounds like a possible infection. I would STRONGLY recommend taking him to the vet. You cannot treat this alone and if it is in fact an infection, he may die. The further you let it progress, the harder it will be to treat. He shouldn't be too fragile to take. Just place him in a box with a towel (so he doesn't roll around too much on the trip). He should be just fine.

Just make sure, though, that the vet is one that specializes in REPTILE care. All vets are trained somewhat in reptiles, but just like medicine with humans, experience is the best training of all.
