from a person who doesn't breed professionally (no papers) and he cries for his mother nonstop. Sometimes holding him doesn't help. He will only eat food from a spoon and is having a really hard time without his mother. What can I do? I know you shouldn't adopt them this young but he was selling them at five weeks so if I had waited much longer he would have sold them all. Does anyone have any advice for how to adjust him any easier? Should I give him skim milk?

I have an American bulldog, an African Boerboel, an Irish Wolfhound, and a pit bull. We live on a large farm in TX, so all of my dogs love going on adventures around the property. Then they all gather in the middle afternoon and vegetate in and around the house, usually for the rest of the day.
I have noticed for some time my boarboel and Irish wolfhound, are more independent and free spirited. My bully's on the other hand, have to have attention and lots of snuggles. They also watch everything I do from folding laundry, to washing dishes, making dinner and mucking the stalls.
My other dogs are sweethearts, but don't require as much attention. So, why do bully breeds look tough, but seem to want the most snuggles and attention??

So I have 2 other dogs, a chiwawa/dashcund (i apoligize for spelling) and a pitt/terrier and i love them more than anything! they are usually kind with other dogs, but the thing is i dunno if they will welcome a new pup into the family. my dogs are like pb&j. they do everything together. and i am hopefully getting a chiwawa mix (not specified... idk what breed the dad is).

what if i have trouble socializing them all? my dogs are full grown, and this little 5-week-old puppy is coming into their life... besides that, how can i potty train the puppy, teach it not to chew on stuff, make it comfortable, etc like what should i buy, what should i do, how should i do it??? any tips on raising a puppy!!!

I took my puppy to a socialization class and she was very submissive. She just sat there and watched the other puppies. She didn't interact. I was out on the street with her today and there was a dog waiting outside. It was very calm, just standing there. My puppy starting barking at it. The dog just reacted like leave me alone, walked away slowly. She kept barking at it. How should I deal with that? She has never done that before. She is a tiny little 4lb dog.

I just built a doghouse and I was going to put straw in it for padding and to keep my dogs warm this winter but someone told me it was a bad idea because it irritates them and I should use something else like carpet or and old blanket. Is this true and if so how does it irritate the dog?

I am fostering a shar-pei-german shepherd dog mix, medium-sized and house-trained. Her coat is very short and not thick. The thing is after I take her out, she would smell YUCKY! at the end of the day. I bathe her once a week. I don't like to bathe her daily because she will lose her coat"s natural oil. So what should I do to let her smell good every day? Is there a cheap perfume for a dog?

I adopted a cocker spaniel from the pound. She had a stupid name (Dora) so we are changing it. Initially, we thought Jesus would be a cool name, but we adopted a girl dog so it doesn't really fit. Any ideas? She's white and cream colored. I'm avoiding any names like "cutiepie" or "precious" or "fluffy." I'd prefer a name that could be a human name as well (just like "jesus" was a human name). Thanks!

I honestly don't think she could be pregnant but I thought I'd put the question out there anyway. She got her first period about a month and a half ago. Her nipps/breasts are still much bigger than they were before and we noticed that she's gaining weight. We have a male puppy that lives in the same house as us (different apartment) and they played alot but I think he's too young for that. He's about seven months old now.

I'm planning on taking her to the vet tomorrow to find out for sure what's going on with this hand full of mine!! but until then I'd really like it if someone can tell me what the signs are. Thank you!!

If you were in a very unusual situation....

where you could only save the life of your pet or a stranger
in the case of a life threatening emergency (maybe a fire or something)

Which would it be? Your pet or a stranger? (a human that is)

Not just putting it in a bowl to drown the fleas, but I've noticed giving my dog a bath with Dawn Dish Soap works better than Flea Shampoo.. Why?

Are you the kind that believes that "anything is better than dead", or would you opt for euthanasia when an animal cannot be found a "good" or better home?? Is living on a chain getting meals whenever people remember and never getting medical care better than euthanazing that dog??
It is hard in rescue to deal with situations like this, but I am tired of prganizations re-homing animals to crappy homes, just to avoid putting them down.
What do other people think???

Hello all...

I was attempting to let my male cat, Chumbuwumba listen to the song "Cats" on my i-pod, and when I was trying to put the ear buds into his ears, he went all crazy and scratched me repeatedly, digging his claws deep into my skin and drawing lots of blood. All I wanted to do was share an intimate moment with him, and he went pyscho on me. Is there an easier way? He doesn't seem to appreciate it when I just play it on the stereo for him--in fact, he seems insultingly disinterested. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I have 2 cats, one 22lb male, and a small female. They never go outside, well almost never. On one fast escape to the outdoors, I guess the big guypicked up a flea. Anyway, i was a bit lax on the flea meds and the little suckers took hold. When I discovered that they both had fleas, I started in with the flea meds (Frontline, the best kind I think), I also treated the house and got a "flea trap", which does actually catch fleas, though not in huge numbers. Anyway, the point is that while the little cat is good now, and I have kept it up with the meds, the big guy still has fleas. I will find them on him 2 days after I give the medicine. Is he too big for the meds to work well enough? Is there a BIG cat version? Or does the vet have some sort of ultra flea bomb? What should I do? I am getting really sick of this, and I know my poor cat must be misserable. Help!
