ugh. must i request tomorrow off? 9:45 - 5:45 at macys. yet my clinic is 7 - 7 so if i hurried a little and had an appointment at 6.

Hi! As a cat owner and a shelter owner, please don't bath the cat. The worms need a different meds and are NOT cause by fleas. You can buy a flea comb for less and 2 dollars and comb out the cat using a warm soapy bath to dip the brush until you see the Vet. You will need a flea drop, please don;'t use Hartz, only frontline or revolution and the wormer is a internal pill. Meanwhile, please wait until you see the Vet, please. This is not a bath issue. Your wil need 3 months of a drop to stop the flea cycle and that is the best course of treatment for you cat. If you have any other questions, please ask. M

I have to say I disagree with Marie....most worm problems are caused by flea bites, if the worms look like flat pieces of rice, you have round worms. Your best bet would be to start using a flea killer such as Advantage or Frontline. Take your cat to the vet as soon as you can. A stool sample will help speed up the diagnosis. Your vet will then give you a prescription to take home and administer. Most of the time it's pill form, (that's what my vet gives my cats) You give it to them the day you get it, then usually a week later....from there, you can treat monthly, unless you notice a new infestation. I have heard that there is a new topical medication, that comes in a tube like flea meds....you give it to them the same way. I don't know if it works or not...I have not tried it yet.

As for the worms she has now? She will be OK until Tuesday. Between now and then, start cleaning your pet's sleeping areas.

When it comes to treating fleas, the only thing I have found to work is stuff like Frontline and Advantage. I have tried all the treatments that you can get from pet stores, and they just don't seem to have the same effect, if they even work at all. Although, if you are like me, you do it only because you have too, I hate the fact that I am putting chemicals on my pets.

Tapeworms ARE most certainly caused by fleas. If your cat has fleas it has tapeworms. It is indeed cleared up with a pill usually Droncet. Roundworms are usually treated with nemex or strongid and are very common among the young and can be caught from the mother when first nursing after birth. The ones that look like rice are segments of tapeworms. The long stringy ones are the roundworms.I worked with a vet for years and if you check it out you will see this is correct.

1) Flea baths do not kill fleas, they are useless
2) Getting rid of the fleas will not get rid of the worms, which are now inside your cat.

You shouldn't have to take the cat actually to the vet to pick up some proper flea treatment and wormer, just go in.

Don't bath him because then you have to wait 48 hours before you can apply a proper flea treatment!!

The vet doesn't need to see your cat to get worm medication. Find the time it takes to stop by and pick it up. It's usually just one pill, but depends on the cat's weight. Do Not delay, worms can kill.
