Any time after he has had his 2nd injections. We accept dogs from the day after they have had their 2nd jabs to about 6-8 months for puppy classes - after that its usually normal dog training classes.

Just make sure you go with a good trainer!!

You can start training him now with some basics. Pick up a training book from either the library or bookstore. You'll want to work on potty training and basic manners (sit to pet, sit and wait for dinner, and come when called). Puppies are usually real receptive this young (but don't forget the "teenage" years are ahead where the dog will seem to have selective hearing - my baby is 9 months old now and is going through this).

At about 4 months of age (after he's had all his vaccines) start him in a group puppy class to help reinforce the things you've been teaching him, teach him even more things, and to give him the chance to socialize more with dogs his age.

Start with a puppy class at three or four months. They will get your dog socialized and introduce you to the basics. the earlier you train, the better off you are. Rhodesians are very smart and this will benefit both of you. At six months, you should attend your basic beginning obedience and then take it from there. Have fun with your new family member!

Dog Training classes usually require that there has been 4 weeks between his full course of puppy vaccinations and starting training.

For first lessons, as soon as possible is best, whilst the dog is still leaning about "life" to leave these first lessons until later in life will leave you trying to teach a "teenager", and you know how much a human of that age -loves- to listen to you, a dog is no different.

Dont wait 5 or 6 months, thats SILLY.
Start as soon as the next puppy class in your area starts. Make sure your dog has at least started the vaccinations. The place I work at offers puppy class starting at 8 weeks. Its basic commands and play time (socialization)

First, find a class that looks good - puppy kindergarten or puppy preschool is a good place to start. Go by that. Make sure your pup is up on all his shots, and get ready to have some fun - I mean more fun! :)

As soon as possible after vaccinations, find a puppy school, it's great fun and the puppies get socialised.

As young as possible!! In practical terms, that means as soon as he has had his innoculations. Make sure you find a good class though, a bad one can do more harm than good. Best thing is for you to go along to a class without your dog and check how it is run. Only go to one which uses kind methods, is properly structured and makes time for individual dogs and their owners.

the younger the better. the sooner you can get them sociallised. and the more things and situations you can get them used to the better. once they have had all their innoculations... get them to classes :) i started my border collie off at "puppy partys" held by my local vets. she had her first one at 10 week old. she is now 5 1/2 months, and a very confidant dog, takes anything in her stride, and had no problem with strangers or their dogs. id say get him enrolled as soon as you can :) if nothing else its good bonding practice between the two of you.
