but the Shetland pony does?
Can horses smell when a girl is on her period even while she wears tampons?
Mine seem to know somehow.
I have two T-Breds and two Arabians, and one Shetland...

My exact thoughts are that they 1) smell blood and are scared, or 2) That I smell differant due to hormonal changes in my body. Either way, they seem to distrust who I am at that time of the month. I can actually force any one of them in to taking me, but I would rather not as it may decide to throw me once we are on a trot.

i have the same problem, its like they dont "see" you because the odor is blocking your usual smell. i dont think that theyr distrusting you, i think its just that they dont like the smell and dont feel like smelling it when its rubbed into the saddle. animals have alot better sense of smell then we do, and he'll deffinetly be able to smell it for a longer time then you will.

Maybe they are more sensitive to you "mood" and lack of patience in the situation. The pony may be more broke then the hotter breeds. I must ask, did you actually track this on a calendar or something? LOL
Seriously, I would work with them more as I require complete obedience from my mare and gelding AT ALL TIMES! Perhaps they are just testing you because you smell different and they dont trust it...
And it may not be smell or your "tude" but it may be your hormones that they are sensing...

The scent is possibly offensive to them, but not the Shetland. Different breeds of animals have different behaviour patterns.

I can't think of why your horses won't let you ride them. When i have my period my gelding doesn't act like anythings different. What gender are they?? I f they are stallions they may think you are in heat, that seems to be the only logical answer.

Your animals prove how sensitive their nose is. Wonder what that says about us humans at and during a womans period. Why are horses afraid?

They can smell the changes in your pheromones and that makes them nervous.

Its Immpossiable for a female to ride any horse while she is on her Period. The horse will bite them, they smell the blood, any horse will bite them if they try to mount them while the female is on her period
