First - if he has already urinated on it it will smell of urine and he will continue to do that. You will need to clean it really well to remove any trace of an odour - bearing inmind that your nose is not as sensitive to his.
It also may not be as comfortable for him as you think/want it to be.
Having said all that , a good way to try to get him to accept a place as "HIS" is to make it smell and seem correct.
Using catnip is one way.
WHen you put him there try giving him a treat. He will then associate it with good things.
You may ned to move the cushion - it just may be in the wrong place. It may be too cool, too drafty, too near a door, him not being being able to see his surroundings from where it is etc.
You could also take something that he tends to enjoy lying on and place it on/in the cushion.
Howvever there are some cats who just don't want to sleep where you want them too

You can not train a cat to sleep in a particular spot. Now that he has peed on the cushion once he will never again see it as other than a soft cushy litter box-might as well throw it away.
What you CAN do is provide a comfortable bed in an area where he already likes to sleep. This is usually a warm draft free spot where he feels secure-corners and under furniture are popular places.
Every cat differs on preference for bedding-some want to be hidden, some want nothing more than a soft carpet-you have to play it by ear. Watch where he goes to nap and observe what's there that makes it attractive.

Now that he has peed on the cushion he is going to see it as a litter box and not a bed. Buy a new bed. Put the bed in a location where he likes to sleep. Put one of your dirty shirts on the bed to make the bed smell like you and it will make the bed a place of comfort.
