Refrigerators used to have recesses along the top of the door to hold eggs, but they don't anymore. Why not?

These were taken off during a renovation. They have a nice smell to them, and it seems a waste to just throw them out.

I got a shoot of an indoor Hibiscus plant from a friend and have been growing it indoors. The plan is tall and only has one main stem and I'd like to know how I can get it to spread out and have more branches. My plant has no real branches, just leaves are growing out the sides of the main stem. Anybody have any ideas?

We moved into an apartment last week that had fleas in it apparently- what should I get rid of? Im getting rid of the couch and my mattress and all of my daughters stuffed animals. Anything else? Im so afraid we'll take them with us. Should I bomb my new apartment before we move in? Theyve already had someone come in to spray the apartment we are moving out of, but I went back last night and there was a flea on my foot so I dont think they died. We dont have animals so thats not where they came from.

Also...Im going to wash all of our clothes, even if they were in drawers or boxes. What should I wash them in to kill the eggs? Borax? Help!!

My son has seen him on the roof of our house several times
at night. Last week my son went up on the roof to do some
repairs and he found droppings from the opossum. He said
it was a mess to clean up. It is also eating the food we leave out for the wild cats that hang around our property.

I'm trying to avoid a trip to the store. My washer stopped working, mid cycle, full of water. I'm trying to find the best way to empty it. I don't have very far to go because I have a sink in my laundry room. I'm thinking a siphon would be easiest. I have a garden hose but it's 50' long and I don't think that will work.

We just bought a new, unfinished, poplar porch swing. It will be on our porch, so not directly exposed to weather. Does it have to be finished, like with varnish or stain that includes the varnish, or sealant? It does need to be slightly sanded, but the previous swing had minwax stain with varnish on it and it didn't seem to do that much for it and over time wore off from sitting in it. I just wasn't going to waste the time on finish for it, if it wasn't necessary.

What kind of problems (and solutions) have you run into in managing a grey water system for your house? (i.e., makeup water excesses, clogging, bacteria, odor)

Has anyone had a negative experience in using grey water for your vegetable garden?

I’m not looking for grey water links – I’m looking for personal stories, solutions.

I primarly use a knife for fresh produce and occasionally meat. So basic as can be...nothing fancy, therefore i'd hate to invest in a cutlery set. I'm just looking for one excellent knife- but i get confused when i look thru sites and stores because they are all sorts of shapes, sizes, have all sorts of names...and i am clueless what I'm actually looking for. What is type of knife should i get?

My husband and I moved into our first house about a year and a half ago. Our next door neighbor is nice, but somewhat annoying. Lately, he has been mentioning about how I need to rake his yard because the leaves are from our tree. Maybe I'm abnormal, but I don't mind leaves in our yard, so I don't even rake my own. I don't feel like it's my duty to rake his yard either. What do you all think?

I just got something from my heating company (NSTAR) about locking in my price per therm for the gas supply charge portion of my gas bill for the winter heating season. They offer a fixed price of 0.9999 per therm. Currently it is 0.9799. Any advice about this, we all know heating apartments is gonna be bad like last year?. If I can save anything it will be a help???

Do I need a permit to build a shed on the backyard if Im the homeowner? The County people are being vague and unhelpful. I dont think they know, or they dont want to tell because they want to wait till its done so they can give us a fine, like that Married With Children episode when Al builds that dog house.

I need to buy a tall freezer, larder fridge, dishwasher and washing machine when I move house. I know that some brands are cheap as they are lower quality, but now realise that many are the same basic product with just a different name badge. I have liked the dishwasher that I bought recently, which was a Bosch and am tempted to stick with them. It appears that they are exactly the same as Zanussi and Electolux though... Looking at this family of products and above, who offers really good value for money ratehr than paying for a label?

It's on the ceiling of my front porch and there are about 10 wasps working on it. I was told to get some kind of spray but I'm afraid of making them mad and having them come after me. No clue what to do.

Also, it seems as though my front door is a favorite place for mosquitoes to hang out and I need a way to keep them away as well. They always get into my house and Halloween night, my door will be open quite a bit.

Should I just have an exterminator come to my house? I'm just really afraid of bugs that sting and my night in shining armor is away fighting off other "bugs" lol. Thanks in advance for your answers.
