I'm trying to avoid a trip to the store. My washer stopped working, mid cycle, full of water. I'm trying to find the best way to empty it. I don't have very far to go because I have a sink in my laundry room. I'm thinking a siphon would be easiest. I have a garden hose but it's 50' long and I don't think that will work.

Try taking the drain hose out and lower it beneath the level of the tub, place the control in the drain position. For that amount of water you would have to create a large suction, not practical, easier to scoop the water out.

A 50 foot hose can work, but it is harder to get started, because you have to fill it with water from the faucet, put your thumb over the opening and then quickly place it in your washer. It does have the advantage that you can lead it outside somewhere. Be sure that the end of the hose is lower than the water to be emptied.

Garden hose WILL work as long as no part of the hose is higher than the water level in the washer. More than likely, you can't get it to drain into your kitchen sink. (because the level is much higher than the washer. You could perhaps drain it to the ground outside.
