Do I need a permit to build a shed on the backyard if Im the homeowner? The County people are being vague and unhelpful. I dont think they know, or they dont want to tell because they want to wait till its done so they can give us a fine, like that Married With Children episode when Al builds that dog house.

If you can not get an answer and it is not too expensive I would just get the permit and be done with it.

You need a permit to build or add anything no matter where you live. But you may also live in a community with an HOA. If you do, you first have to get approval for the structure from them. Get it done right so you don't have to worry about taking it down or getting fined or both. It's not a big deal.

Call and ask how much a permit is for a shed. Then go from there about what sizes and codes are covered.
