Because the temperature in the door is not cool enough for eggs. You are also not suppose to keep milk there either.

Its been said that the constant - albiet minor - temperature changes every time you open the fridge door is detremental to the freshness and safety of the eggs.
They need to maintain a more constant cool temperture to keep fresher longer. On the door, the temp changes every time the door is opened.
So, put your eggs in the back of a middle shelf where the temp is more constant.

The reason is that eggs keep better at room temperature.
They also need to be at room temp.for baking etc.
