I want that big country sized house....with lots of lawn....a barn shed with a play area and loft.....a pond/animal wildlife area (even if I have to build this myself to attract more animals). Thats my dream place.....but I dont want to go too far from convenience.....meaning my walmarts, malls, wawas, downtown, ocean front, amusement parks and everything else near me...not to mention all the friends and family...

Would you move if it meant more space, bigger house, or just more of nature? Is there a limit to how far you'd go?

What is the best way to make the following setup safer from break-in. I realize that if someone wants to get in, they will, but how could I deter them more with the following setup:

Here are pics:

It looks pretty simple to me...break the glass pane, reach in and unlock the door. Is there some way that's not totally unappealing to the eye to make it harder to get the door open? Would it be possible to put safety glass in the panes closest to the lock that would match the rest of the panes?

Any ideas? I guess when it comes down to it, it would be just as easy for someone to just break one of the huge enclosed windows and climb in. I'm buying this house and don't feel real safe. Maybe a 12 gauge and an alarm system are my best bet?

I just killed the second spider that I've never seen before (I've seen two of them this past week, killing both, one inside the other outside). I'm in the midwest (Chicagoland) and the spider, with legs outstretched was between 1/2 inch to and inch in diameter. I have never seen such a huge spider in the open before and was wondering if anyone had an idea of what type of spider this may be. It was brown but that's all I can remember from the time of freaking out until I quickly grabbed my shoe and killed it.

I'll need to store my belongings at a self-storage place for several months. I've never done this before. Can you rent one large space for your car plus all your things, or is this not safe (in terms of fire hazard)? Is it more typical to rent a separate room/garage (indoors) for your car and a separate room for your belongings?

My roommate is from a foreign country where air conditioning isn't exactly commonplace. We both use the A/C all day, but I also keep the ceiling fan on. I've heard my entire life that ceiling fans are good at lowering your energy costs. He turns off the ceiling fan whenever I'm not around, stating that I'm just using MORE energy (A/C+fan). Who is right?

I have a small outdoor thermometer in my window. My window has a screen outside and a sliding door inside the room, so the thermometer is in the middle of the window. The front of the thermometer, which has the numbers are facing my room. The back is against the screen. If I place a index card on the back of the thermometer to make shade, it should be safe right? Like the card won't burn or anything right?

We have just cut down an old shaggy, dying tree in our back yard and have saved all of the timber. We thought we would save it for next winter to use in our fireplace.

Since moving to Dallas, Texas, I've seen some gigantic cockroaches. I grew up in Eugene, Oregon, and we just didn't have any cockroaches to speak of. Now they're everywhere! No matter how clean we are, I keep seeing them outside and every once in awhile one in the kitchen or bathroom. I think they might come in through the pipes. So, what's the deal with all these damn cockroaches here, and what's the biggest one you've ever seen? I saw one, I think it may have been the "queen roach," that was easily 3 inches long - but it looked like it had wings!

It's a Dimplex CXL heater (convector/storage combination). I turned on the convector heating function for some instant heat. It gave off a strong burning smell that's still lingering in my room.

On the positive side, it does release heat and my room is still warm even though I turned off the heater after just 5 seconds.

So I'm wondering if the smell signifies there's something really wrong with the heater... and if I'll die in bed tonight from gas poisoning or something (or should I check into a hotel for the night?) -__-

In case you're wondering, it's freezing here in Scotland.

We have a garage that is level with the yard and while working out there today we killed at least 15 black widows. YUCK! I know we can't use fumes due to the water heater light and the gas heater. Anyone had sucess with another route? It would be nice to use the garage.
