I am wanting to move a bathroom wall a bath width into an adjoining room. The wall to be moved is brick/block. I have checked the beams up in the loft and they are running from the outside wall and resting on this brick wall joined to a second set. My plan is to build the new portion wall (3x2 timber with extra uprights) then in the loft drill through the beams and put 3 x 10" 5mm steel plates on each side and bolt through with 16mm bolts to clamp the two beams together. Does this sound OK? In total I will have to do 4 beams i.e a bath length.

The slates I have picked up from my garden have nail holes and also a large blob of white 'blu-tack' on each of them.

Is this normal, or should I suspect a botched job by my roofer?

I live in a unit with a wooden kitchen, and it is absolutely teaming with cockroaches. There was only a few until summer came, but when I came out tonight to get a drink, there was hundreds of the small brown ones running around. I surface sprayed but it doesnt seem to help, and I have a kitten, so I cant ise that powder coz it could hurt him. Any suggestions?

I was told it was because my heater is new, but how long does it take to go away. Will airing out the room help(Unfortunetly, what is the point of having a heater if I just let all the heat out lol!) I don't have a sensitive nose as it is lol. I tried burning candles, does that help?

During the recent storms, I had a power cut. I lit several tea lights and placed a few on my kitchen worktop. Suddenly one of the tea lights burst into flames. My worktop has now risen (about the size of a 2p) and has a burn mark on it.

How do I get rid of the burn? (I've been on Kim and Aggie's website, but can't find anything!!!)

I have a solar/car battery system setup, and want to run an outside Security PIR Light using 12 Volts. Is it possible to buy a 240V Security Pir Light (fairly cheap to buy), and change it to work with a 12V supply?

I can get 12V 50watt Halogen bulbs no problem, its the PIR sensor i can't find. Does anyone know where I could get one from or if it is possible to change the PIR circuitry to accept a 12V supply as opposed to 240V mains?

Cheers

BUTTONS FOR CLOTHES! :D

When the timer on the controller gives a run signal, the pump runs but there is no heat to the rads or hot water tank. The boiler hasn't lit because the pilot has gone out. I have gone through the "light the boiler pilot" instructions religiously and the pilot will light, yet when I slowly release the grey button after 30 seconds, the pilot light goes out right at the end of the grey button's travel. I have tried turning the grey buton to the right and releasing it as insructed, but when I try to light the pilot again after 3/4 minutes, the same thing happens. It's almost as if the grey button is being allowed to travel outwards just a fraction too far which is cutting off the gas supply to the pilot light. Can the grey button be adjusted or will it require a replacement? If not that, what else could it be? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have heard that it is better to leave your central heating system running at the minimum, setting rather than to turn it off and have it kick on by timer twice a day.
Some people also say it's cheaper (because the water doesnt have to be heated from cold each time?).

What is your view, is it best to leave central heating running all the time or by a timer?? If you have sources to back this statement up i'd appreciate it.

Watch out Britain. IT'S COLD!!
