A "plant nursery" is a place that grows plants to sell to the public or wholesale plants to the retail nurseries to sell to the public. They also provide other gardening supplies like mulch.

Babies of this world are tender fragile things whether they are human, animal or plants and while it is natural for plants to self sow and grow in their native environment only a limited number will survive and even then only where there are optimal conditions. The nursery provides the optimal conditions for the seedling/young plants to grow into healthy strong plants thereby increasing not only the number of plants produced but also their vigour. Of course there are some very desirable genetic mutations in plants that cannot be reproduced from seed and must be grafted, this is usually done at a "production/wholesale" nursery where seedlings are mass produced for sole purpose of being grafted with the rarer types. Of course the breeding of new varieties of plants such as new colours/types of existing plants is usually done in (specialist) nurseries where specific conditions are created to assist in maximising the germination/health of the seedlings etc. Retail Nurseries generally have a variety of plants, fertilisers, tools etc and trained staff to assist the general public in making appropriate plant choices or address any diseases/problems they have in their garden.

To provide healthy plants, hopefully applicable to your local climate and seasons. Give good cultural advice and help to gardeners. Provide all requirements that you may need to care for your plants if its a Retail Nursery, or propagate Tree's, Shrubs, Seedlings if its a Wholesale Nursery. It would be possible for some Genis and Species of Plants to actually disappear if it wasn't for Plant Nurseries propagating them.
With out Plant Nurseries our Environment would suffer, No Nurseries, No Plants!!!

A plant nursery, like any other nursery, gives the young a chance to grow in a protective enviornment.

The importance of a plant nursery is to nurture plants and to advise the public of what to plant, how and where to plant it. We answer a lot of questions for gardeners new and the experienced ones, too.
