Injuries - December 2006

My beautiful baby boy was born in September via a c-section. During the procedure he received a spiral fracture to his left humerus and a haematoma (bruising mass) to his scrotum. I am angry that this has happened and have been informed that there is no avenue to sue the doctors repsonsible as I can't prove pain and suffering because he was a newborn baby at the time these injuries occured. I am not a money grubber and do not want to sue for monetary benefit. I just want the doctor to be held accountable. It is extemely rare for a baby to sustain a fracture during and c section and it is rare for a baby to receive a bruised scrotum so I imagine it must be exceptionally rare for a baby to receive both!!! My friend is a vet and has said that they pull calves out with tractors and they don't break limbs, so how rough did the doctor have to be for this to happen??? This happened in Australia and is more of a rant than a question but feed back from anywhere is very welcome.

I guess I must have been hit in the neck playing backyard football yesterday, though I apparently did not realize it (or didn't think enough *of it* to remember it) at the time.

Weirdly, the swelling is on both the left and right sides of the frontal region of my neck, right between my adam's apple (which is NOT swollen) and my pulses on each side. The soreness isn't overwhelming, but it is annoying and a little stiffening.

Ice didn't seem to help at all, strangely, as it does with most swelling episodes.

I was recently kicked with the heal of a skate blade on the back of my thigh, a little above my knee. The ER doctor that stitched me up said that the blade hit a small artery and that it was a very deep cut but he just closed the skin with 8-10 stitches but I went to see my family doctor he said that I should of had stitches to close the muscle that was cut too. I am a figure skater so my legs are very muscular and have very little fat on them. Now that its healed I can feel a hole under the skin in the back of my thigh when I put my hand over it, what could that be caused by?

how long does it usually take for the tingling to go away in your arm (provided you were shocked there)? How long should you wait until you get concerned?

After 30 minutes, my peripheral vision came back, but with a splitting headache that is still assaulting me. I've taken motrin for it, but I've never had this happen before and it is very weird. Any insight on this? Also, where I could not see, it was not black, it was as though "fluctuating". It was very strange. Any takers?

She is 4 years old and she had a G-tube for 3 years. Some surgeons told me to let the hole close by itself no matter how long it takes. I am really worry she can get any infection and I don´t know how complicated can be the surgery. I am in overseas and if I have to do the surgery I want to go to the United States because she got the G-tube in Denver. Does someone knowns a Doctor in Miami ? Thanks for your advice

I'm an author who has extensively searched the internet looking for a site that will answer a couple questions about gunshot wounds for me, but I haven't been successful. So my first question would be if anyone has any good, generalized sites that might discuss the various effects of different wounds and what their treatment and recovery times would be. If not, does anyone happen to know? I don't want the character to have too many lasting effects, but need to know general things like if the bullet would need removed or if it would pass through, what kind of surgeries might be required, what the implications of such a wound would be, and recovery times. Any other information that might help make the scene more realistic would be greatly appreciated!

I sneezed so hard that I know something went wrong inside. Two days later I have to call emergency because it was excruciatingly painful and hard to breath. X ray showed nothing, MRI showed nothing. The pain was on the left side of my rib cage. I was given some antibiotic (Augmentin tabs) but am not sure if it really work. I felt it for more than 3 months. That happened in March this year.
Last month, while at dinner time I sneezed not as hard but I got the same symptoms on my right side around my rib cage. I had an xray done and ultrasound performed but nothing showing up.
Today I have a CT-Scan and hopefully get results this week. During the ultrasound test I felt the pain on my left side to came back. There is some part of my skin that seems to swell or numb
but the feeling inside when I sort of cough or sneeze is like a tightening and pulling pressure inside. Only thing I noted was a sort of springlike movement on at the edge of my ribs when I push my finger.

I had a pretty bad nosebleed tonight. Did nothing to cause it, just sitting on the couch watching TV. But what scared me was the huge bloodclot like thing that came out with the blood. The blood was just pouring out of my nose. I'm 31 and haven't had one since I was 5. Can stress and/or depression cause this to happen?
