I just had an ankle and leg surgery and my foot is swollen during the day but blows up like a balloon during the evening.

Injuries and surgery require Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Gravity increases the serum build up in the lower extremities; a pooling effect.

The use of a cold compression therapy wrap several times a day and elevation as much as possible will stop the pain and swelling while the injury heals.
