To gb - this accident could probably have been prevented, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I was riding out on a cross country course, hore spooked, reared, fell on my leg and then stood on my shoulder when he was getting up. Would have been hard to prevent, I WAS wearing protection as well.

Try using Palmers Cocoa butter. I've been using it for a month now, it make my scars lighter and my skin softer and smoother.

Hi, I've been having the same problem. A friend recommended bio oil and I've been giving that a go. I've only been using it about a month but there is some difference, only minor though. When I'm going out I use a really good foundation/concealer combo on my arms, just war trousers or tights to cover my legs. A friend of mine recommended using a fake tan which can help with more minor scars. I didn't like it though and my more recent scars stood out even more, so not worth doing it you have newer scars. Hope this is helpful.

If the wounds were sewn up by other than a plastic surgeon, you will have bigger scars. A plastic surgeon can make them much less noticeable, but this is typically not covered by insurances. Eucarin skin cream, or even cocoa butter rubber lengthwise in the direction of a scar can help to flatten out the tangled fibers of collagen that make up scar tissure- remodeling it over time. Apply some pressure when you do this. Vitamin E is also a good medium for scar massage.

it depends how old they are....
this should've been something that you were trying to PREVENT rather than REVERSE.
you can try masaging with vitamin E like some of the other people said but you should not expect great results
and as the other people said .... it may take plastic surgery. Sorry!
The other option is to leave them alone and have a story to tell people when and if they ask.
I had an Uncle that was missing a finger, and every time any of us kids would ask about how he lost it, he had a different story...
sometimes a bear ate it, sometimes he fell into a snake pit and got bit, sometimes he said that he chopped it off while chopping wood etc...

How recent???? take advice like the other answerer said from a plastic surgeon. You can approach your GP first and ask for a referal to a plastic surgeon...They will be able to give you a better idea of how they will fade and age or how severe they are. I know there are some kinds of gel now that help to heal scars faster and better. if it is bothering you it might be best to seek medical advice. Have a look on
scarheal.com
it gives you some info and links that may help.

You have only just had the sticthes out and they need time to heal. If they are very bad see your GP.
However, if they are on your feet and shoulder they are in areas that can be "covered up". I know you might not want to cover them up, but I'm thinking of people who have scars on their face etc........ps I've had bad scars all over both legs for about 4 years now. I'm totally relieved its not on my face, but its meant I've worn trousers all that time. I don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but it may be that you will always have scars...they just can't be magicked away, only covered up (with some kind of cosmetic cream specially made for this possibly........see your doc).

hi Alex...sorry to hear of your accident and that you now have 3 scars...so, first i want to say, please 'do not' ever feel horrible about them, in a little way feel proud to have them, you had a nasty accident but you survived, and they only ever show 'how' you have survived it...nothing in life is horrible, just a little reminder, and if you think people will think less of you because of them then it is them that have a problem and not you, 'not ever you'.
you are 'you' and you are a 'unique' person, and will always be so.

try the suggestions that other people will give, but always remember, they are 'your' scars, 'your' memories, so love them as you love yourself...take care and sweet dreams always...and have a very very happy new year.

I've heard good thing about Bio Oil I think it's fairly expensive but you just need to apply a small amount each day. I know a couple of people who have used it and they swear by it I've never used so can't fully comment. You can get it from most pharmacy's. For more info:

When i had my appendix taken out i got a pretty big scar on my stomach which i hated, i used something called wheatgerm oil, it helps to fade the scar, it worked on mine to fade it but beause my scar is raised out in a line where i had the stitches u can still see it. try the wheatgerm oil yourself and see what you think, it does help to fade the colour. also i dont know much about them but you can buy make-up to put over scars, i saw it advertised on tv, you would have to search for it on the net though.

given them time, they will be less visible eventually. use sunscreen when in the sun so they don't become darker. some people I know have used vitamin E on scars. get vitamin E and put a hole in it with a pin and squeeze a little on the scar and rub in.
