I had a pretty bad nosebleed tonight. Did nothing to cause it, just sitting on the couch watching TV. But what scared me was the huge bloodclot like thing that came out with the blood. The blood was just pouring out of my nose. I'm 31 and haven't had one since I was 5. Can stress and/or depression cause this to happen?

High blood pressure can cause a nose bleed.Did you get too warm? Also try a humidifier this will keep the nasal passages moist.Electric heat is very dry and sometimes gas heat may have fumes that can irritate the nose.Stress may lead to high blood pressure!Don't think depression would cause it.

I have had this happen twice. There first time I went to the emergency room because it wouldn't stop bleeding and it was just puring blood. They couldn't give me a reason for it, all they did was put an ice pack on my nose so it would clot up quick. Then the blood clotted to the ice pack and they had to cut it away form it. The next day it started bleeding again so I jsut did what they did and put an ice pack on it and when I went to remove it a huge blood clot came out with it. It was really gross. Then about two years later it happend again only this time the clot wa much smaller. I have had one since then and that has been a pretty good time ago. It would be interesting to know what caused it though.

It might have been caused by dry air and nasal cavities.

Check what kinds of meds you're on. Even if you took Sudafed, it might have dried out your nose. The skin is very thin and prone to break on its own.

The blood clot might have been dried mucus.
