You would have had a signficant impact on the side where the pain is. Then, you would be in almost unbareable pain. I work in a hospital and have had several paitents with broken ribs and they often are unable to get out of bed for the first few days after the injury because of the pain. Even after the first few days walking around is painful because it can cause you to breathe faster and breathing is quite painful for them.

Fractured ribs are almost always a result of direct force although in osteoporotic patients something as small as a cough or sneeze can fracture a rib.
The patient complains of a sharp pain in the chest which is made worse by deep breathing and coughing. On examination if the chest wall is compressed ('sprung') in the anteroposterior direction the pain is aggravated. X-ray shows the fracture(s), usually near the rib angle.
Treatment in the majority of cases involves nothing more than the injection of a local anaesthetic and the encouragement of a normal pattern of breathing. In rare cases a bone fragment may puncture the lung resulting in a pneumothorax. Once the pneumothorax has been treated it should be remembered that the fracture is now a compound one and antibiotics should be given.

Did you get hit in the ribs?
Can you bend over?
Is it black and blue?
Does it hurt to breathe?
If you answered yes to any of these questions I would go see a doctor and get an x-ray. I broke a rib once and it hurt like hell...

Sweetie, you would know if your ribs are broken! They might be bruised which also hurts bad. I would go to the Dr, and have an X-ray done.

you can't take a deep breath without having pain. It's difficult to bend or move. Get to an urgent care. They will have to tape the ribs to prevent them from puncturing your lung!
