I had my ACL replaced and a few other items fixed up on my knee on the 15th. I was on Crutches for about 5 days and now I'm walking with out them, my freinds are shocked, I don't see the big deal so is this normal.

Bah! Normal walking is good for the muscles in the legs, especially after 12 days. Weight bearing is not damaging to the ACL unless you hyper extend your knee or subject it to sharp stop/start or twisting movements. The only exercise that you should NOT be doing is leg extensions. That is potentially very damaging, but you should be on a supervised rehab program that will take you through all the does and don'ts. If you had a graft taken from somewhere else in your body, you should really take it easy for about 6 weeks. If you are lucky enough to have a Kevlar Graft, your healing should be a lot faster.

If you had your ACL replaced, that means you are probably using a cadaver graft which needs to heal into your body. Just because you feel better, doesn't mean that you are better. Doctors don't tell you to do things like use your crutches just to be difficult.

Do what your doctors tell you to do, or you risk reinjuring your knee.

Yes. most post knee surgical procedures call for walking as soon as possible. That does NOT include exercises. As the area begins to heal itself, gentle range of motion exercises can be added, and gradually increased to strengthening exercises.

At any time pain or swelling presents, go back to Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation until the pain and swelling stop.

Use of a Cold Compression Therapy Wrap for the knee will aid tremendously in stopping pain and swelling.

I did the same thing. When you consider what they put me through in physical therapy, walking was the easy part. Just be careful and don't over do it. You will be able to tell if you are doing something you shouldn't be doing.

Congratulations, you had a successful repair. Not all will recover as fast as you have, but you did recover well. I am so pleased. You did great. You had your ACL replaced? I would have tought the tear would have been repaired. You are very, very fortunate.
