Do you think you can actually catch bad breath from someone, like a cold? I got a lot of great info from http://drkatz.wordpress.com too to those who are asking similar questions.

All of a sudden my gums swelled up a few days ago for no reason. I just went to the dentist today but they were not sure what was wrong even after x-rays and they just gave me antibiotics. The thing is that the swelling is getting worse and spreading and my under chin hurts really bad.

Has this ever happened to anyone? Could this have to do with my braces? (I've had them for 1.5 years and haven't been to the ortho for 3 weeks)

Also, I think I might have overheard the dentist say something about bone loss but they didn't really say anything to me.

HELP!!

i understand that they want you to have an empty belly, but does it really take FOUR hours for the water to leave your stomach? Especially for a 2yr old?

How long does it take to digest water?

What about breastmilk? I understand breastmilk only takes 20 minutes to digest. Shouldn't that be okay then?

Do they just say 4hrs to be safe as a liability issue since I have seen some sites that say 2hrs is okay?

so i just found out im gonna have a root canal next week.
im glad im able to save the tooth, its a pretty big decay but im worried about it sweeling. my appointment is at 9 am and i have a class at 2. i dont want to have to walk around campus and have people stare at a swollen face, much less have to explain to people why my face is swollen, its kinda embarrassing
anyway, ive heard stories of swellings and stories of no swelling at all so im confused
if anything, are there any tips to prevent swelling?
thanks in advance!

About 5 weeks ago i had a rotted tooth drilled and had a medicated filling put in. I am supposed to go back to the dentist on the 4th of October. My tooth was feeling fine, still a light pain, but usually 2 advil a day took care of it. Last night i was out eating and took a drink of my beer, and all of a sudden i had an intense pain in the left side of my mouth. Basically where the medicated filling is. But the pain wasnt just on that tooth, it was also on the top row as well, and today the pain is worst than what it was before i got it drilled. Any idea why it is like this? Also should i call my dentist or just try to wait it out until the 4th thats still in like 3 weeks. Im more concerned about what happened, like why did that trigger the pain again after it was fine? Now im having trouble sleeping again.

My daughter got her wisdom teeth removed about 5 weeks ago. 3 days ago she started complaining about jaw pains. There is no swelling but it is a little hard for her to chew hard objects and it hurts if she touches the outside of her cheek. Are the spots were she got her wisdom teeth removed infected?

Is there anyone that can help me with this one? My 7 y/o was evaluated today because her dentist told her she may need braces do to an extra tooth that is growing. They determined that she does need them, but because she has many missing teeth that fell and also some were extracted, and because of her not having all "adult" teeth yet, she is going to not need braces this minute but later on. So, they are doing what is called a "phase 1" treatment, which is to take care of the problems before she needs the braces. This treatment alone is $2,000 plus. But, they didnt fully explain to me what exactly will be done. It's a dental school because i have no dental insurance. They told me she needs this treatment before they can put on the braces. Does anyone know what this treatment consists of??

my point is, after finally getting dental insurance (8 years without it) i need to see a dentist terribly and i do not have the finances to cover the 20% that would be my part of the copay. are there dentists out there that are able to see a patient without a copay or would they get in trouble by waving the copay? i live paycheck to paycheck but teeth are something you can't neglect.

It has been well over a month since I had my wisdom teeth taken out. I just now noticed today that there is a small black covering on my gum where my bottom left wisdom tooth was removed. It is not sore at all. I also have good oral hygiene. I brush twice a day, and usually floss everyday or every other day. I also use mouthwash daily.

Is this just a scab from the old blood clot or is this something more serious. And remember, it has been about 2 months since my wisdom teeth were taken out.

I have a badly chipped, dead tooth and limited funds for a root canal, so I have been putting it off.

I say it is "dead" because there is no pain.

A few hours ago, it started to throb a little, so I checked my gum in the mirror and saw a pointing abscess. I put my finger on it to see how hard it was, and it burst with a small amount of bleeding.

Now, I know I have to see the dentist, but I am concerned more about the infection than the tooth. Since the abscess has drained, do I need to see the dentist tomorrow? Or can I wait till the end of the month when my check comes in?
