so i just found out im gonna have a root canal next week.
im glad im able to save the tooth, its a pretty big decay but im worried about it sweeling. my appointment is at 9 am and i have a class at 2. i dont want to have to walk around campus and have people stare at a swollen face, much less have to explain to people why my face is swollen, its kinda embarrassing
anyway, ive heard stories of swellings and stories of no swelling at all so im confused
if anything, are there any tips to prevent swelling?
thanks in advance!

Maybe.

But if you are only worried what people will think or say, forget it. You're having a minor surgery. Its a good thing. I've got that coming soon too.

Have some ice chips to slip in your mouth. It helps with swelling and pain.
Mayb make a little sign that syas something like "root canal" for when people ask.

The worst part for me is always when the novacain starts wearing off. You think you can feel your face, but not really. So be sure to have some tissues at hand.

Don't sweat it-- I've had 3 to date, no 4 but I had that tooth pulled after going through all of the hassle of the root canal. You don't state where the tooth is, front- up down molars--if in the front teeth, you will have numbing up into your nose and possible you may have your eyelids feel funny- but in 5 hours, all the swelling no matter where in your mouth will be gone-- you may just have a yucky taste in your mouth for a while from the chemicals they use......it's worth it....much better than a space in your mouth!

MOST PEOPLE HAVE A SWELLING BEFORE THEY NEED A ROOT CANAL.
TO HELP PREVENT ANY SWELLING TAKE IBUPROFEN AS A PREVENTIVE MEDICATION THE DAY YOU HAVE THE ROOT CANAL. THIS IS ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND WILL HELP TO PREVENT SWELLING.
