About 5 weeks ago i had a rotted tooth drilled and had a medicated filling put in. I am supposed to go back to the dentist on the 4th of October. My tooth was feeling fine, still a light pain, but usually 2 advil a day took care of it. Last night i was out eating and took a drink of my beer, and all of a sudden i had an intense pain in the left side of my mouth. Basically where the medicated filling is. But the pain wasnt just on that tooth, it was also on the top row as well, and today the pain is worst than what it was before i got it drilled. Any idea why it is like this? Also should i call my dentist or just try to wait it out until the 4th thats still in like 3 weeks. Im more concerned about what happened, like why did that trigger the pain again after it was fine? Now im having trouble sleeping again.

O btw, it almost seems as if the filling shrunk? I remember rubbing my tounge over it and not feeling sharp edges of my tooth, now all along the filling i can feel sharp edges, do medicated fillings 'disolve'? Maybe thats where the pain is comming from beacuse it is not fully sealed or something? This just really pisses me off because when i went there in the first place after putting it off for months, i wanted them to just pull it but me being young,21, they would not. If they did this would be all done with! Darn dentists!

If the nerve is still being effected by acids in your mouth, that means its still open - Also, If the tooth is a wisdom tooth or if you have your bottom wisdom teeth stilll - they can grow out and push your teeth together cause excrutiating pain in the bottom and top rows of your teeth.
Go to the dentist - he/she havent done there job right if you are still having to take advil

Just had medicated filling myself still numb only way to get full pain relief is to have it pulled got an infected wisdom tooth as well which is moving forward causing pain on lower jaw but dentist can't pull it because the nerve to the tooth is near to the nerve that functions my tongue n lips n been referred to specialist for specialist removal n the medicated tooth is getting pulled at same time as it's near to my sinuses hopefully the pain will subside with 2nd lot of antibiotics n pain killers

Don't wait it out. Go back to your dentist ASAP.
I remember when I left the dentist one time after having a root canal filled and oh my god the pain as soon as I walked out the door was deadly! He had to remove the filling and leave it open for a while. I ended up having to have that tooth pulled because it just would NOT take a filling after the root canal.

I'd call the dentist. It could be that there's a gap between the filling and your tooth which allows fluids to seep in. When you drink something, your tooth might be sensitive to the cold temperature since the cold goes right to the nerves in your tooth. Or perhaps, the filling just doesn't insulate well enough again extreme temperatures. If he doesn't see an obvious gap, he might just recommend toothpaste for sensitive teeth (like Sensodyne).

MANY TIMES A MEDICATED FILLING WILL GIVE THE TOOTH A CHANCE TO HEAL, BUT MANY TIMES THE NERVE INSIDE STILL REGISTERS PAIN. THIS REQUIRES A ROOT CANAL OR TOOTH EXTRACTION IN ORDER TO STOP THE PAIN.

Call your dentist and tell him all of this. Your dentist will decide what he wants you to do.
