My daughter got her wisdom teeth removed about 5 weeks ago. 3 days ago she started complaining about jaw pains. There is no swelling but it is a little hard for her to chew hard objects and it hurts if she touches the outside of her cheek. Are the spots were she got her wisdom teeth removed infected?

HAVE YOUR DAUGHTER BE TESTED TO SEE IF THERE HAS BEEN SOME DAMAGE TO THE TMJ (TEMPOROMANDIBULAL JOINT). THIS MAY HAVE SUSTAINED DAMAGE DURING THE EXTRACTIONS.
IT'S UNLIKELY THAT MUSCLE DAMAGE WOULD DO THIS BECAUSE 5 WEEKS IS PLENTY OF TIME FOR ANY DAMAGE TO HAVE RESOLVED.

The best thing to do is get in to see your dentist and have things checked out. They will be able to see if there is any infection or the muscles in her jaw joint could be inflamed due to having to be open so wide to the the wisdom teeth out.

I just got three teeth pulled 12 days ago. My jaw/ear/throat hurts like crazy. I called the dentist, and he called me in the office. He said there is no infection. THe probable cause? When they take out BACK teeth like that, your jaw is opened MUCH wider than normal. It is likely that her jaw (like mine) is just very SORE. Good luck to her!!! I'm still on Vicodin at night!!! Tooth pain sucks!!!

becuase its a surgery and these teeth are in the bone and they are taking them out....the bone needs to heal too and becuase they are so far back, it affects that whole area. I had huge bruises on my face and it was sore. chances are its not infected. your best bet is to phone the dentist though and ask. she may need to go in and have it looked at becuase the only way to tell whats going on under her gums is to have xrays.
