Is anyone else a vegan or vegetarian and suffer from candida (yeast intolerance)? I do and I can't eat any processed or femented foods such as cheese, vineger, soya products, yoghurts etc. I'm also allergic to dairy. It's really hard and I'm struggling with it as I have to be so careful what I eat. I've started using a protein powder to up my protein intake. I'm very careful and eat a lot of lentils and beans and nuts but I want to be on the safe side. I wonderd if anyone else follows a diet like this? I'm not looking for medical advice as I do have people I talk to, but just interested if anyone else is like this and what they eat.

(*If you could have celebs there) What would you serve to your guests and what would the dress code be?

Mine would start with homemade cream of sweet potato and parsnip soup (not using milk, but creamed coconut), the main would be quorn and cashew nut risotto followed by a rhubarb and rapberry coulis with coconut cream and vegan friendly dark choc shavings!!

The dress code would be "Bring back 80's big hair rock!"You would strictly have to wear either an item of spandex, faux Leather (ie not real and made from plastic) biker jacket, something with leopard, zebra tiger or snake print, big hair , either your own/ slash - style wig OR some bangles (unisex). I would invite my close friends from work, Y A and in my local theatre group, Def Leppard, Sir Paul McCartney 'cos he could do with cheering up right now!!! and our favorite Red Neck , I mean we really need an a** for when we play pin the tail on the donkey after dinner!!!!

This probably sounds weird, but I have never in my life eaten an artichoke. I would like to try them but have no idea what parts are edible and which parts should be discarded. Any artichoke experts out there that could enlighten me?

I'm a vegan, so it must be totally animal-free! Perhaps soup or vegetables stuffed into vegetables!
Anyone have any neat recipe suggestions? :)
Thanks!

I ate soy for years, I loved tofu scrambles, ate tons of veggie burgers, soy lattes, soy milk, fried or steamed tofu, stir fry tofu with soy or teriyaki sauce, tofu/veggies with hummus. I actually miss it b/c I thought it was good, and low fat.

What do you know I gained 80 lbs from it turns out that it shut my metabolism down by blocking my thyroid hormone and screwed up my thyroid (if it wasn't already screwed up to begin with). So I thought I was eating healthy, I wasn't I was making my body shut down. So basically it's like kryptonite to me or a major food allergen or worse.

My advice is to watch out for soy. The isoflavens in it have the equivalant of 5 birth controls pills (the hormones) in a glass of soy milk. Also it is the MOST processed food in the u.s. and hey, PROCESSED food is bad for you!

Is it your kryptonite or will you at least consider my precautions when eating it?

I heard that cheese making includes some enzymes from dead cow stomachs - is this true ? If yes which kinds of cheese are those and which ones do NOT contain any animal products (other than milk) ? Thanks

is it safe for my kids to eat vegetarian products like veggie bacon?
I am on a vegetarian diet right now and the kids always want to taste my food.I know vegetables are the healthiest thing for them, but these aren't pure vegetables, and I am not sure how they are made. These are boca products and morningstar, and I know low fat or fat free are not healthy options for kids because they need the fat (especially my kids).I always cook them seperate real meals but they always want to try what I am having.I know these products are called veggie burgers and veggie bacon, but are they safe for kids?and what's really in them (obviously other than veggies)?

Here's how mine is stacked:
Whole wheat bun
mustard
sliced tomatoes
caramelized onions
caramelized mushrooms
Sharp cheddar cheese
Grilled gardenburger
Whole wheat bun

I love this combination! Any other ideas and suggestions?
Plus I eat it with pickles, pepperoncini, and some raw veggies and dip. Today I ate it with tofu fries! I love gardenburgers!
