Vegetarian & Vegan - October 2006

[Selected]: All categories Food & Drink Vegetarian & Vegan

This doesn't exactly fall under the food & drink category, but I need some advice from animal activists and smart shoppers.

When buying things like beauty products I try to invest in brands that claim to be strictly "vegan" or those that do not test on animals. Sites like http://www.caringconsumer.com have more info on stuff like this. Anyway... in your own experience, which of these sort of products are the best? Which shampoos, conditioners, moisturizers, etc. or just certain brands in general tend to do their job beauty-wise?

Do they think it's trendy to save their little animal friends or do they truly give a darn about animals?

BTW, I'm an unabashed omnivore.

I'm 13, and I have looked into becomeing a vegetarian, mostly for animal activism (sp?) and I dont know how to approach my parents about it. My mom grew up on a farm, so she cooks meat dinners almost every night. I just don't want them to put me down for my decision, or saying its just a phaze...

that we don't like meat. I grew up eating meat and loved it. I still miss eating bacon, that's the only thing I miss. I quit eating meat 5 months ago after reading an article on how animals are treated.

I dont understand why some vegetarians eat chicken. But they wont eat other meat.

Chicken is a dead animal so u cannot be vegetarian.

My question is,.... Why is that?

My mum is a vegetarian she eats products from meat but not meat itself.

whenever I tell people that I am vegan, I have to explain that I am a vegetarian that does not eat dairy or eggs (don't even get to honey or leather as this confuses them more). But if I tell them that I eat a plant-based diet it seems to be easier to comprehend. Also, do you think the term veganism carries a negative connotation?

I'm looking through the phonebook and they all say "distilled water" and "spring water" but they don't say where the spring water is from. Should I go with a name I recognise? I've heard of Culligan, but what about Crystal Springs or Roaring Spring?
