that we don't like meat. I grew up eating meat and loved it. I still miss eating bacon, that's the only thing I miss. I quit eating meat 5 months ago after reading an article on how animals are treated.

Good for you for standing up for what you believe and denying yourself even the things that you enjoy! IMHO, that's integrity.

I don't know if *all* meat eaters assume that vegetarians don't like meat, but many of them seem to believe that. You're living proof that a person's conscience -- not his stomach -- can dictate one's diet.

I suppose lots of people who eat meat think that the only way someone can completely forsake eating meat, is to not like it that much in the first place - otherwise they just wouldn't be able to give it up! That's still a baseless assumption though, you're an example of that.

And, not all meateaters assume that. Most of us are aware of the various reasons for being a vegan or vegetarian, and don't assume. The first thing I ask someone when I find out they're a vegan is why they chose that lifestyle.

And good for you on making a personal sacrifice for your beliefs, I hope you manage to keep it up.

Not to be harsh but do you think that animals that go to slaughter are read a bedtime story before they kill them? Also if you get organic beef and other free range stuff the animals are treated better. My father owns a farm and he always names the animals after his fave dishes and they have a good quality of life untill they meet the plate. Its all in how you look at it.Is the fact that you dont eat meat mean that its going to make the lives of these animals better..NO
Also there are regulations on how a animal must be slaughtered so unless you read one of those wacked out PETA articles then i think you may be slightly misinformed.Another subject that you may want to look into is do you own a pet??If you do then you may want to rethink that as well not everyone treats their pets well so does that mean you will never own a pet..See where I am going here..

everyone is a vegetarian for different reasons. I was raised that way so I never liked the taste of meat when I tried it. Now I have grown to enjoy trying new types of food including all types of meat. Also I see food as great way for people to come together, so I avoid restrictions on what I eat that would draw us apart. Suffering is not a good argument against meat. I assume you wear cloths, but I guarantee the majority of you cloths came from sweatshops.

Good question! I'm a rabid carnivore myself, but I must admit I fall into this \assumption too. I would never give up meat but will beware of such assumptions about vegans in the future!

Why do you assume that I assume you don't miss eating meat (now THAT was a convoluted sentence.)
I want to thank you for not condemning my omnivorous appetite. So many vegans insist on shoving their way of life down my throat.

Because you are a vegetarian, and do not eat meat, thats why people assume you do not like it. Do you honestly believe that animals will be saved because you , or even 250,000, stop eatting meat. Animals will still be slaughtered, the only difference is that meat will go to watse, so you are suffering for nothing. Do you use medicine, leather, (car seats, purses, shoes, belts etc.) ?

p.s. how are animals treatly poorly, with exception for veal?

Ah, another way we like to divide into groups and make stereotypes of each other.

I don't assume you don't like meat. I just know you don't eat and that's all that matters. Why do you assume all animals are treated poorly?

Nuts. I treat my bull Goofus like a family pet. I water him, feed him, play with him, and he has plenty of room and grass. Of course, when it gets cold I'm going to bludgeon him, slit his throat and butcher him.....but in the meantime his life is pretty good.
