tahini is sesame seed oil, buy it at krogers or kessels or whatever your local grocer is

I tried to google to see if there's a Trader Joe's around there. Couldn't tell. I know they have some pretty well-priced tahini. If you don't have any luck, go to a Fred Meyers and buy some sesame seeds in bulk. If you have a good food processor, blend the crap out of those little guys until it's a nice gooey paste. Otherwise, a well-cleaned-out coffee grinder would do wonders.
True tahini is just sesame seeds. No more, no less.

I see that someone listed a recipe for tahini--I was just about to say that it's really easy to just prepare it at home.

Many ethnic sections of grocery stores now carry tahini; you might have to poke around for it, though, because I've seen it all over the place, like the Middle-Eastern, Jewish, Vegetarian and once even in the Mexican section.

Pretty much all health food stores carry it, from the big guys like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's to the smaller outlets. In these stores, it should be either in the sauce, seeds, or bean aisle...if there's an ethnic sectioning of the store, it might be there. It's best to ask.

Good luck!

I don't know about Joliet (except for Joliet Jake, y'know) but I live in a small town in the South and I get tahini in the ethnic section of the supermarket. Sometimes it's in with kosher/Israeli food, sometimes in Middle Eastern food. Sometimes, it's also in the natural foods section, with other kinds of nut butters (it's sesame butter.) If you can't find it, I guess you could grind up your own sesame seeds (untoasted) in a food processor or blender or something into tahini.

If you have a Trader Joes in the area, they have tahini at good prices. Otherwise you can find it at Jewel Grocery, in the ketchup and mustard aisles of the store.

I live in plainfield. Dominick's on 59+Black rd. (or the one on essington + catonfarm) most likely has it. You can try the health food store, For the Good of It on Jefferson + Essington, in that plaza on the corner too. They are talking about putting a Whole Foods in Naperville on 59 and possibly in Shorewood as well.
