whenever I tell people that I am vegan, I have to explain that I am a vegetarian that does not eat dairy or eggs (don't even get to honey or leather as this confuses them more). But if I tell them that I eat a plant-based diet it seems to be easier to comprehend. Also, do you think the term veganism carries a negative connotation?

It really does depend on the person. Plant-based diet is easier to understand. Many do not know what a vegan is. There are several types of vegetarians, which also may cause confusion. You have to realize that you are a minority. You are not required to explain yourself, and you are not a dictionary or encyclopedia. Keep it short and simple. If asked, answer; but you do not have to volunteer information and get frustrated. You cannot educate the world. It is others responsibility to learn about the world and the people in it.

As a long time vegan I'm used to saying I'm a vegetarian who doesn't eat egg or dairy. Personally, I don't think that veganism carries a negative connotation. Although some assume I'm a tree hugging granola eater. ;)

To me, "plant-based diet" does not convey the fact that you do not eat dairy products. Tell people that you are vegan, "which means that you do not eat or use ANY animal products including dairy."

P.S.: I hope you are consulting a doctor about your nutritional choices. Many vegans have a very difficult time getting enough protein and other nutrients. Be careful.

I dont thing the term veganism carries a negative connotation. I just thing vegans are idiots. Do you go thru all this avoidance of consuming animal products so that you dont "hurt" the animals? Do you kill a roach when it gets in your house, or do you let it go free into the wild?
I bet you still drive a car. You go thru all the trouble not to hurt animals, and yet you slaughter millions of flying insects each year just driving from Orange County to Santa Monica.
What about the poor little plants you eat? Ever stop to think that they may have feelings too? That they may want to live and not DIE? Have a heart vegan. Starve yourself and dont go anywhere, so that everything else can live (or at least not die by YOUR sadistic hand!)
Oh yeah, and if you eat Jello, or Jiffy brand cornbread you are eating pork products.
You pig eater!
LMAO

To me, the word "vegan" sounds like a body part you only show to your doctor. I like plant-based diet better as it's easier for the average Joe on the street to understand.

And yes, vegan has a negative connotation IMO. Y'all have PETA to thakn for that.

one million. I drink water, coconut water, smoothies (fruit + water/fruit juice (do-it-yourself) + ice/fruit + veg + ice/frozen fruit + do-it-yourself nut mylk/and so forth.), vegetable juice, fruit juice (all juices are made seconds earlier than in a juicer for max vitamins) two. It's now not counterproductive, however the outcome won't equate to these following an absolutely plant-founded vitamin. three. I devour ninety five%+ botanical culmination and I run four-eight miles everyday. Protein does not provide you staying power, carbs do. four. What's less difficult than reducing a dozen oranges or peeling a dozen bananas?
