I'm 39 and first started eating vegetarian foods when I met my wife in college. I think I was 23. At first I didn't think I could ever give up all meat. But I think vegetarianism is sort of like religion. One's beliefs evolve over time. Maybe progress is a better word. I started eating meat less and less and before I knew it I couldn't believe I ever wanted to eat it at all. Now I've given up dairy. But like I said I'm progressing. I still eat some eggs. Just remember that everything in life is a choice and you're in control. Make informed decisions.
I should add that my wife and two kids are vegetarian. Our kids have never tasted meat. We are healthy and happy about the way we live. Sometimes it's hard to explain to other people here in the mid-west about our choices. I don't know why, but a lot of people become defensive about our own choices.

Vegetarian is not so bad but Vegan is worse. Do not become a Vegan. It is dangerous for your health. Especially for growing children. Mothers breast milk is high in saturated fat and cholesterol and there is a good reason for that. People need and especially children need healthy foods like butter, whole milk, eggs, meat. The quality of these foods depends where it came from. The best is foods that are organic and from animals raised on pastured. Not the animals raised in confinement who never see sunlight and are fed grain and giving anitbiotics and hormones regularly. To find sources of these healthy nutrient dense foods click here:

Congrats on turing over to a much healthier and humane lifestyle. I've been a vegetarian for almost 15 years. There are lots of recipes, not to mention foods in the stores that offers much more variety. I am a vegetarian and my husband is vegan. I do love cheese although have cut back on it when I can. Eggs, I rarely eat and when I do, I use the egg whites. PETA.COM has lots of info on vegetarianism/veganism. Check them out and good luck. xoxo, Zena

About a year. Too bad I didn't start earlier... I could have avoided this diabetes. Fortunately the vegan diet helps that tremendously. I only have to take a little pill twice a day. The diet helps me keep my weight down which helps keep diabetic problems away. There are lots of other benefits like eating all I want and not gaining weight, unlike other so-called diets. Wish more people could see the light. Here, check out this website. This doctor saw the light over 20 years ago and has cured thousands of folks from "incurable" conditions. http://www.drmcdougall.com

i've got been Vegetarian for 11 years and Vegan for the final 3. I grew to become one from a mixture of political/well being/religious motives, no person genuine defining reason stands proud. over the years i've got carried out alot of my very own very own examine and that i think of that i've got made an somewhat stable determination. in my view on a well being point i think great, once you're leaning going vegan i might do your examine first and in simple terms be constructive you get all your nutrition. human beings will say which you will no longer get adequate Iron and calcium yet there is an abundance of those in leafy vegetables like spinach and kale and Legumes are extreme in Iron. For me in my view it wan't perplexing in any respect, you will get aggravated with each and all the questions inspite of the indisputable fact that. yet different than that its a great life form.

I've been meat free for 27 years - 26 years and 11 months, actually. I do eat dairy and, yes, eggs, too. Commercial eggs are unfertilized, so they can never become a fetus.
I cannot imagine ever eating meat again. Food tastes so clean and fresh without meat - meat just tastes dead - ugh!
Congratulations on your decision to eat a healthy diet. You will be spared many of the diseases that plague people eating the typical American diet. And you will be able to live with a clear conscience, too, knowing that you do not contribute to death-eating.

12 years since I was 22!! Good for you, well done!!! Don't let anyone put you off!! Narrow minded meat eaters said it was a phase I was going through!!!, well some phase!!!!
Can I ask you are there many vegetarian school meals provided ? I left school in 1991 and there were very little options available. My friend at school was vegetarian so she brought a packed lunch at the time!!!!

I have been a vegetarian for 4 years now and it's the best decision I have ever made. But...you have to have self control. It's a lot harder just to give up meat after you eat meat as your main course for most of your life.
