How far South London are you looking at?

There's a great Indian in Tooting (SW19) called Kastoori. The best day to visit here is on a Sunday when they make their special Oro Curry which is a roasted aubergine curry; It's delicious!!

There is also another vegetarian place next door to Kastoori but I've never been in there.

In South London Kastori (South Indian) and Shree Khrishna (a few meat dishes) are both very good, and not expensive.

Food for Thought in Covent Garden. Famous amongst students, so great food and cheap. A bit further out is the Riverside Vegetariana in Kingston Upon Thames, but that is more expensive.

My knowledge of London geography isn't very good, but there's a little Hari Krishna cafe in one of the little side roads of Oxford Street that serves cheap veggie food.

There used to be a great place in Greenwich (you asked for South London) called Oat Cuisine. Dunno if it's still there, but what a great name, eh ?
