For one I do eat soy meats. I drink organic milk and free range eggs. I include all dairy into my diet because it's not dead animal.

Because that is what the word suggests. Most people do not realize that it is simply a diet that excludes animals.

Types of Vegetarian Diets

* ovo-vegetarian - eats eggs; no meat
* lacto-ovo vegetarian - eats dairy and egg products; no meat
* lacto-vegetarian - eats dairy products; no eggs or meat
* vegan - eats only food from plant sources

Many people who call themselves vegetarians are actually semi-vegetarians. They may have eliminated red meat, but may eat poultry or fish.

And a lot of stuff that you eat in place of meat products are made from vegetables or plants of some sort.

vegetarian burgers are made from vegetables amongst other things. Tofu is Soy bean curd
If you Eat Seitan (its pretty good if you havent...its usually made to act like chicken) thats made from wheat gluten.
Hopefully your det consists of alot of beans or other sources of protein.

So no... vegetarians may not sit and munch on an apple or a carrot for dinner..they do eat a lot of stuff but ... most of the stuff is made from fruit or vegetables in some way

People tend to generalize, and most people, unless they're interested in adopting the lifestyle themselves, wouldn't take the time to do research and find out just what vegetarians do eat. Then, there's also the confusion added by different facets of vegetarianism: ovo-lacto, vegan, etc. I don't think that most people intend to be offensive when they make generalized assumptions, though.

I don't know but it's very irritating. I eat a huge amount of different foods including veg, fruit, beans, lentils, tofu, quinoa, rice, pasta, bread, corn, cerals, eggs, nuts, seeds, soya milk, rice milk, almond milk, peanut butter, rice crackers, soya chocolate, soya yghurts, icecream...the list goes on.

I agree with the person who said that people who have no interest in adopting the lifestyle have no interest finding out the truth about veggie diets, and hence they remain ignorant. At the end of the day they are only making themselves look stupid, not us.

Because that is the main gist of what they eat. Why do you think they call themselves vegetarians?
