No, where is the logic here? There is no ethical harvesting of fish eggs.

Unfirtilised chicken eggs will never be a chick, and therefore you are not taking a life, potential or current, by eating the egg.

We get this stupid question every week, and then we end up with lots of the answers having no clue about the biology of a hen.

And then we'll get stupid comments like "some veggies eat fish" and "some veggies eat meat sometimes"....where is the logic in that, are the animals "dead sometimes"...i think not.

Veggies do not eat fish, poulty or meat. You are not a veggie if you eat any of those items. Please do us all a favour and go and read a dictionary, you cannot just say you are veggie and then ignore the definition. If I say I'm black enough times does that make it so, no, of course not.

can you be a bit more imaginative please.

It depends on how the fish eggs are harvested. Quite a few are taken from fish in awful states, and can lead to the death of the fish. Some are fertilized, so contain very small baby fish. Chicken eggs are unfertilized. So, no, I wouldn't eat fish eggs, in the same way I wouldn't eat battery farm eggs. If someone could ensure me they had been ethically harvested, and were unfertilized, then fine. But I think some fish only release eggs at the point of fertilization (I might be wrong though).

Anyway, they are blooming expensive too.

Vegetarians who eat fish are NOT vegetarians, they're 'fishocrits', morons who want to give themselves the moral high ground of calling themselves vegetarians when they're not! Please don't pander to them.

In answer to the question, I've been a vegetarian (ie eat no dead animals - mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, fish...) for over 20 years and I do eat some hen eggs, but couldn't eat fish eggs. However, I've never in my life eaten fish and find the smell repulsive, so that would put me off to start with.

I have been a vegetarian, eating no flesh or eggs of any kind.
I've been a"vegetarian" eating fish and eggs and fish eggs, (although some would say that anyone eating any sort of flesh cannot truly call themselves vegetarian!).
If I was a vegetarian and not eating fish, I probably wouldn't eat fish eggs either (just to be consistent). On the other hand, eggs are eggs no matter from where or what they come....so...
Now you've got me going!
Bottom line: follow your conscience (or your "guru", whichever you listen best to).

Let me start by saying that I am not a "pure" vegetarian. I eat fish. I do eat fish eggs every time I have sushi (which I love). Being a veg head is a choice and the level of veg one decides to be is very personal. Do what ya gotta to be happy and healthy!!!

I wouldn't eat fish eggs personally, because I find fish unpleasant to start with, never liked to eat it even before I became vegetarian.

I probably would object on moral grounds too, my personal creed is to avoid eating or using things an animal was deliberately killed to produce (and no, I *don't* wear leather). I believe that fish are usually killed before they harvest their eggs (although I've never felt the need to research it due to personal distaste), so that would rule them out. If it was done humanely, and without causing harm to the fish, I'd have no objection beyond "urgh, that's fishy!"

do you? Being vegetarian is a choice not a must (for most people, since there are people that cannot stand meat or allergic to meat, even if they like them). Even a vegetarian might eat meat sometimes. Why is the reason of the person becoming a vegetarian? For health reason, well one time shouldn't hurt much? For excessive weight reason, well do you think the amount you're planning to eat would cancel your entire year becoming vegetarian? Inability to eat meat, well can you stand against fish then? Or just for fun, which means you can cancel your vegetarianism anytime you wish.

Yes. Most definitely. A lot of vegetarians eat fish too. They might think fish eggs taste disgusting but they should have no ethical problem eating them

There are different kind of Vegetarians. Some eat dairy products, some eat fish. All depend on individual because you are what you eat. Find your own ways and do what suit you most.

Of course. This is not considered meat. But, if you eat fish eggs and go fishing you won't catch any. The fish will figure out that something is a little fishy.
