I want to make baked macaroni and cheese for dinner but I don't know what to make as a side dish. The only veggies I eat are carrots and corn (don't like the green ones). Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks!

I've been wanting lately to expand my cooking ability to include dry beans. I know how to cook them, and I always use them for chili ... but what else is good to do with them as a meat replacement? Just serving them up plain with veggies beside them is always possible, but I'd really love to hear some more creative ideas. Also, I remember hearing once that there's something you can put in with the beans while they cook that will help eliminate the gas ... anyone know anything about that?

And maybe some broccoli, depending on what answers I get here. If I get the pre-cooked, frozen shrimp, do I just thaw it and toss it in with the sauce? At what point? Same question with the broccoli, although I think I'll do fresh broccoli.

I want to do some baking today and tomorrow. I am making a pecan pie, apple tart tatin and a cherry tart. I am making the crust for all 3 and it is butter based.

Should I wait and bake them on thanksgiving or do you think baking them in advance is a good idea? I'm assuming that I should be refrigerating them because of the butter crust. Is this true?

I would like to serve at least 2 more items. Recipes would be appreciated, thanks.

I thawed my turkey in hot water and let it sit in the water bath form about 8 hours. It is a 16 lb turkey. I then put it in the fridge because i'm not actually going to cook for 2 more days. I needed it thawed so I could brine it. So, is it still safe to eat?

Just wondering...I thought most of them are yummy.
One of my most favorite is the squid =) (stuffed and grilled, sauted, even fried dried squid)
Which one is your favorite and how would you want it cooked?

I'm in the process of thawing my 16 lb. turkey in the fridge, it says to allow 2-3 days to thaw out or 9-11 hours doing a cold water thaw. Here's my questions:

How do you know when the turkey is thawed enough..I mean if my bird isn't fully thawed, can I still go ahead and throw it in the oven a little longer to be sure it's cooked?

Also, should I decide to finish thawing my turkey with cold water and my bird is in the fridge for 2 full days how long do I let it sit in cold water?

I need to have this bird cooked by 7:30 Wednesday, and this is my first turkey!!!! Bad planning on my part!

I need some help. I am having a fondue party and I am in charge of the meat fondue. I thought I would have chicken and beef.
What is a nice cut of beef to use for fondue?
Any good fondue recipes for cooking meat in?
Other people are bringing cheese & chocolate so I don't need any recipes containing chocolate and cheese.
Thanks!

I've been an avid baker for years. One problem I seem to encounter continuously is with cake baking, my cakes often come out quite dense or cooked unevenly...

i have a very old oven (came with the house 15 years ago) and i know this is definitely part of the problem. the "bake" doesn't even work anymore-- only "convection bake" which seems to cook the outside of the cake much faster than i'd like.

even though i love baking, i'm getting frustrated with cakes constantly turning out too heavy (even recipes chosen especially for their light, airy texture).

the last time i made cupcakes, i got muffins. i've been baking for years and even with tools like a stand mixer this happens a lot (i make sure not to over/undermix too!)

do i need a new oven or do i just need more practice?
