do you have any sausage or even a smoked turkey leg would help for flavor.
definitely take out the water and replace with chicken stock.
you could try boullion cubes, dry onion or vegetable soup mix.
sautee some onions and celery and carrot in butter/olive oil until soft and add to pot.

HERE IS THE KEY!!!... all of the above.. but the next time you make beans.
Cut up about 4 or 5 slices of bacon, hocks, or ham...
whatever, add as much onion as you like(I like alot),
chop up some celery,
maybe a little carrot,
add about a tbs. of butter or margarine,
SALT & PEPPER to taste (as they say).
all in the same pot.
NOW...COVER AND SIMMER ON LOW HEAT
TIL THE ONIONS ARE TENDER... Careful not to burn
This will SMELL wonderful!!!
NOW add your presoaked beans
with enough water to cover about 2-3 inches over the beans,
Cover partially and cook til the beans are tender
(You can also put this whole mess
in a crock pot and slow cook)
OH YUMMY!!!!

It might be too late for this but when you soak your beans you could add a sprig of rosemary or thyme and discard after the soaking. But I would add those again while the beans are cooking. Also you could try a few bay leaves. I always add bay leaves to my beans along with other herbs. And of course onions and celery always add flavor. You might want to check out Martha Stewart.com, she has some really good ideas for beans. Good luck!

Onions, grated or sliced carrot, sliced celery, some beef or other cooked pork (left over pork roast or chops).
If the broth is very thin, you can add a bit of leftover mashed potatoes, some dry potato flakes or shredded, such as hash browns, to thicken it, too.

I love onion soup mix, I flavor all my soups and beans with it, sometimes I will use a 1/2 of the envelope if I don't want a strong taste of onions. Just keep adding until it tastes like you want. If you haven't put meat in it put a little beef broth in it or bouillon cubes.

Lots of salt and pepper if you don't have a ham hock or piece of salt pork to put in it.
