i am making snickerdoodles and some recipes call for butter others shortening. i don not have shortening but i have margarine. will this be okay to use?

Be careful which margarine you use because some of them have water in them and that will make your cookies gooey. You can substitute oil and or butter, however.

Technically, yes it is okay to substitute margarine for butter, but it will somewhat alter the finished product.

Margarine is not a great substitute- but they'll still taste good. Just watch them carefully in the oven. It'll brown/cook faster.
