I saw a recipe on Yahoo that suggested salting water to boil potatoes to be mashed. I was always taught that water should be salted if you want flavor to be evenly distributed between the liquid and what you are boiling. In the case of mashed potatoes, you want the potato flavors to remain in the solid potato, since you are draining and discarding the liquid. Shouldn't the salt be added after the potatoes are cooked and drained?

this is my FIRSTIME cooking a turkey and I'm nervous. first i want to know what seasons do you use to get that pretty brown color and taste?
second, how do you keep the turkey juicy?
and third do you let the turkey defrost in the refrigerator or let it sit out to get room temperature. and what temperature do you cook it on.
thanks so much for answering and happy holidays

I just bought a big thing of Pesto sauce at Costco. I was thinking of a good side dish or entree to bring to friends house for thanksgiving. It does not have to be traditional thanksgiving style at all. Any good recipe would be nice! Thanks

I boil the noodles for 3 minutes on the stove. Then I add the flavor. Then I drain it and add a little butter.

I baked two pecan pies for Thanksgiving and am traveling about 500 miles to my husband's cousin's house. Do I need to have them refridgerated (ie: a cooler) or are they ok without being chilled? The temperature is supposed to be in the 50's.

Every recipe I've seen aks for water and kosher salt, many with other additives like grlic and herbs. I just want to know, can I use regular table salt (I have a big canister of iodized salt)?
I hate to go to the grocery store if I can use what I have.
Thanks in advance.
Oh! Also, if I can use it, do I use the same quantity of table salt that I'd use for kosher?

Thanksgiving day I have to travel about 45 minutes away for dinner with my daughter and her family. I have a pretty big list of things to make and was wondering which of these dishes could be made and refrigorated 1-2 days ahead of time. Please let me know what is best reheated. Thanks so much.

1. Green bean casserole.
2. Candied yams (No marshmellows)
3. Cornbread Dressing
4. Rice Dressing (Dirty Rice)
5. Broc & Colliflower with cheese casserole.
6. Spinach & Artichoke Dip
7. Deviled Eggs
8.Cup Cakes

Let me know what would be best prepared Thanksgiving day and what can be reheated and still taste good. Thank you very much for any input. Have a Happy Safe Thanksgiving. Lisa

I don't want to make the typical salad so these are things I want to use. I also would like to leave out leafy veggies.

baby corn (can)
kidney beans
chick peas
dried cranberries
tomatoes
cucumbers
bacon bits
croutons

Please suggest any other items and dressing too. Feel free to tell me to leave out any of the items I listed.

Thanks!
