I cook them then drain, THEN add flavor packet and some butter. If you add the flavor then drain, all the MSG goodness goes down the drain!
I like to add stuff to it: black beans, drained and rinsed from a can, are really good with ramen. Cheap protein. You can also add a handful of frozen peas.
Garnish with chow mein noodles for a little crunch.
It is crappy fake food but damn it is good.

I cook them in the microwave usually and then drain almost all the water, add the packet and some butter and pepper. Sometimes I like to add shredded cheese as well. However I have added some hamburger and spaghetti sauce to the beef flavored ramen once....It was really good.

ramen is originally from asia, and i got into "spicy cheese ramen" when i lived in korea.
you make it just as the directions say, but add a few drops of sriracha (a very spicy sauce you can find at the grocery store) or even tobasco works. then put a slice of american chesse on top of it. the heat from the soup will melt the cheese, and it will swirl around as you stir it. pretty tasty stuff, actually.

I microwave them for 4 minutes in a square bowl then drain the water and add ranch dressing and buffalo wing sauce. Sometimes I substitute sour cream for the ranch dressing.
