I baked two pecan pies for Thanksgiving and am traveling about 500 miles to my husband's cousin's house. Do I need to have them refridgerated (ie: a cooler) or are they ok without being chilled? The temperature is supposed to be in the 50's.

benjamin --- your pies will be just fine on the trip un refridgerated the sugar in them will preserve them just be sure to pack them good so they will not be damaged on the trip. I have made a boxcar full of pecan pies in my time. Have a good Thanksgiving.

They get better if they sit out a couple of days. Sugar is a very good preservative and pecan pie is very high in sugar content. And, refrigerating them will only the crust go soggy.

I would refrigerate it. It obviously has no preservatives in it, so it may not be the freshest. Last year, I left my pumpkin pie on the counter the day before Thanksgiving, the day of and the next morning.. MOLD. Put it in a cooler just to be food 'safe'...

Happy Thanksgiving.

No need to refrigerate it. The sugar content preserves it. It is entirely safe at room temperature. Refrigerating it will make it a bit soggy.
