I was thinking of cutting the apples before dipping them into caramel. I wanted to make them more like finger foods instead of whole apples since I think they will be easier to eat at a party. Do you think it will work? Will the apple go bad? Please help, I dont want to screw it up. Thanks!

from cookbooks? tv? watching a parent or someone else?
and how long did it take you to feel like you "knew" how to cook?
i'm sort of wading through cookbooks and random internet recipes and trying to figure out if it's always going to be this frustrating and take this long... thanks :)

Fiesta Turkey Bake

12 oz Whole grain rotini noodles
1 can reduced fat cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup milk
1.5 cups mexican style shredded cheese
.5 lb diced turkey
1 can mexican style corn with bell peppers, drained

basically, you cook the pasta, then combine the soup, milk, half of the cheese, corn, and pasta. Place in a lightly greased pan, cover with the rest of the cheese, and bake in a 375 degree oven for about 25 minutes.

I tried this recipe tonight and it was okay, but it didn't have a whole lot of flavor. I thought about adding some crushed tortilla chips to the top (underneath the layer of cheese). Any suggestions on what else I can add to give it a little more flavor (without making it spicy because my 16 month old son needs to be able to eat it as well.)

Thanks to all who answer!

We are having a Halloween Dessert contest at work and i wanted to make caramel apples. But I want to make them Trick Candy Apples. ( you know like trick or treat )
The only 2 ideas I have for tricks are something unexpectedly gross like seaweed around it or an unexpected spice. like curry.
But it is a taste contest so my other idea is instead of apples, put popcorn balls on sticks so that's the trick that it's not an apple.
Any advice or ideas?

I've been trying to find a recipe for some time now for a basic white/yellow vanilla type cake.

It seems that so many of the recipes I try are REALLY dense (as in they turn out doughey and heavy) or taste either like nothing or like eggs or flour.

I recently made a cake that came out "rubbery." It was very light but the texture was very elastic (like bread) and could only be cut with a sawing motion--otherwise the knife would just press the cake down flat.

I had cake made by a professional at a party recently that was delcious and moist, AND it seemed the perfect texture: the cake was light and moist, and cut very easily (no 'elasticity'). when pressed on with a knife, the cake split without being "smooshed down" yet hardly ANY crumbs fell off.

this is really specific but can anyone tell me how to achieve this type of cake? I just can't seem to perfect it and I'm growing frustrated.

it was a ritz cracker, wrapped in bacon, with i think a little cheese on top, but I am not sure since the "cheese" was reddish. It was so creamy and it melted in my mouth.

I don't have any butter sprays at all, and my mom bought those easy to bake brownies. So can I just spread butter or margarine on the pan to make the brownies not stick??

The recipe is for a 9" springform pan so I'm not sure how to adjust the cooking time.

Okay so I have a weird question. When ever I make food I tend to get a little over creative... (haha) I was wondering if there's anyway to make my sauces thicker...

For example I make pasta and I put terriyake(sp) marinade in it, which is very thin, how do I make it thicker so It kindof coats the noodles? I dont want it as thick as a marinara sauce - fyi.

Any Idea's let me know... If you're confused by my question I'll try and add some details.

Can I just add cherry pie filling to the top of any cheesecake recipe? Would I do this right before I serve it? Or after it comes out of the oven?

I realized I ate some of it today and didn't have any clue what was in it. I just know it was all in some sort of pita bread.
