How often do you make dinner each week from scratch (i.e. no prepared foods as an ingredient). An example of what i mean is chicken with a can of cream of mushroom soup. No frozen pizza or hot pockets, no jarred tomato sauce.

I can sympathize with the survival cooking and am guilty myself, so I am not being critical. Just trying to get an idea if anybody has successfully established a routine of scratch cooking.

It's a dessert, great for Halloween parties. I think it has chocolate cake or maybe brownies for the base, then maybe a layer of cherry pie filling all covered with whipped cream. When you dish it out it gets kinda mixed up and looks like a train wreck in the snow.

If you have a direct recipe, then bless you.

Sites are secondary.
Both appreciated!

I recently went crabbing and was unsure how to cook them. My mom says you have to keep them alive and then drop them into boiling water. This seems crazy. Why do you have to cook them like that? How can you buy them in the store frozen if you have to do it this way?

If I buy a head of lettuce, chop it up and divide it into zip lock baggies and pop them in the freezer, how long will it stay fresh?

And, when I remove from the freezer, will it be frozen so much that if I bite into it right away it will be like an ice cube or will it just be really really cold?

I need to make a cake for my husband's work that will feed about 100 people. I thought of putting two 12 x 18 pans side by side to make one large 18 x 24 sheet cake (one chocolate and one white). Has anyone else done this before? Would I be able to find a box large enough to fit this cake? I have made the 12 x 18 cakes before but this is the first time I putting 2 of them side by side. Thank you!

We frequently have another couple over for dinner, but I don't want to constantly bore them with my "signature" dishes. I also don't want to have to spend the entire evening in the kitchen cooking OR cleaning up when I should be entertaining my company! What are your favorite easy recipes when cooking for 4 or more adults?

Please Note: We do not eat seafood!

Okay, I hit the jackpot at the farmer's market last weekend. I got a huge head of cabbage, some Jersey sweet potatoes (the yellow kind), a 50 lb. bag of white potatoes, a lot of broccoli, and a really big head of cauliflower. Now I need to use this stuff up quickly! I already made stuffed cabbage leaves, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, and chicken vegetable soup in the past couple of days. The cabbage just seems to not be disappearing...
I have a boneless pork roast, chicken, and ground beef in the freezer, but we're kinda' tired of the beef. I lean toward pork, since we had chicken soup last night.
I also have to have some kind of meat with the meal, as hubby is a basic meat and potatoes guy, vegetarian meals won't go over well with him.
Any ideas or recipes? Links are fine, no need to post the whole recipe in your answer if you don't want to.
Thanks!
